We have in mind something of a white theme, and are pretty keen to keep the interior walls white. We need to pick the parts that will give contrast though. We're leaninng to something along these lines. It's still a bit spartan in the rendering, but I tihnk that's partly because I haven't drawn in a lot of details. The other idea we were working with was to introduce some dark timber grain doors. This is a more striking look, but ends up more expensive, and I'm not so sure about the longer term freshness of the look. I'm not all that happy about it, but I can see from the engineering drawings that we do have quite deep footings, at 900mm deep beams. I think they're being on the cautious side, bucause it's somewhat deeper than the place going up next door, where the soil would have to be much the same. But then I'd rather have footings over-engineered rather than under, so it looks like just pouring some more $$$ into the project. It includes $4500 for removal of spoil though, which sounds kind of high to me, so that might be something to follow up on. Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 11Mar 07, 2015 1:58 pm Yep, site cost increases aren't fun. Your dining area is great (big). Love the timber. Really adds more depth. To save on the costs of adding that, you could do just base cupboards. That's what we're doing and the contrast is interesting. We have similar colour stone benches (Ice snow Ceasarstone) which I think goes really well. I like the layout of your living spaces EDIT: oops you have got cupboard contrast -- looks nice! Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 12Mar 09, 2015 10:13 am Thanks for that. The dining area had to be fairly large. The other half likes her 1800x1800 dining table, which takes up quite a bit of space. I also have a plan to one day try to cut that table in half, so it can be reconfigured as a 3600x900 table for large gatherings - and that means the area also needs to be quite long as well as wide. It's handy having plenty of room where people can gather. Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 13Mar 09, 2015 2:07 pm Great idea. I was eyeballing that huge table. Which council are you with Onk? Or not that far south? And any idea when you'll start? Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 14Mar 13, 2015 8:36 pm We're in Mitcham council, so in an established area. I don't quite know when construction will start. The limiting factor wil probably be the domolition of the current house. Perhaps foolishly I waited until council approval untill getting the services disconnected, so they may not be cut off until mid April, and demolition a few weeks beyond that. By then all the selections and design work should be done, so hopefully they can schedule a start! I'm sure I could have got things going a lot quicker, but that would probably be a whole lot more stressful too.. Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 15Mar 16, 2015 10:52 am Looks good! I suggest the old red brick co for demo if you haven't organised one. http://boostaoakfordsa.wordpress.com Site works: 26/8/14 Trench: 2/9/14 Slab: 8/9/14 Frame: 18/9/14 Bricks: 24/10/14 2nd fix: 24/11/14 Handover: End Feb 2015 Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 16Mar 16, 2015 5:36 pm I was really happy with Magill Demolition if you are looking for a few quotes. I have also heard that GP and sons are very competitve on price. People have spoken well of them on forums, and they've come in well on the pricing. The gas is now all abolished, and now just waiting for the electricity, and it should be ready to go. Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 18Apr 13, 2015 10:55 pm Took about 6 weeks for SAPN to abolish the elec (really just remove the meter). Ours happened on Friday. We are still waiting for demolishion approval. Love your 3D rendering mine is all in AutoCAD so looks a little comical as far as colours are concerned. Re: Building in Adelaide with Oakford Homes - Interior Colou 19Apr 14, 2015 7:37 pm Our power was abolished last week too, so now demolition can happen as soon as they are ready to start. That will be the first real action on the site. The 3D rendering has turned out to be quite an important tool in designing this place, particularly in working out details, like the entrance gable and the line of the dropped ceiling. It kind of helps with colours and finishes as well, but the tricky thing there is to get sufficiently realistic textures and lighting for it to be meaningful. It's nice and relaxing doing the 3D modelling though. Sorting out all the selections has been a bit of a stressful time for us. Reigning in the cost is tricky, but fortunately our standard spec is fairly good, so it isn't to bad to fall back to the no-upgrade option. We had about $500 of upgrades in tiling, which didn't seem too bad, but then the tile company came back to us saying that the 400mm shower shelves we'd specified were actually going to cost more, and be $100 each extra over the standard included 200mm one. Given you can buy that 400mm shelf for $33 retail, that sounds like a bit of a grab, so I've queried them on just where the money is on that one!
