Well, we got the bad news about our possible retaining wall / fence combo... and it's just not going to happen with the really crappy clay soil we have. The guys will still do it, but warn us that the cracking through the concrete or blocks could be pretty severe. I don't know what to do now. We need some kind of retaining wall that won't crack... or something. And we definitely need a new fence. Re: Suggestions on what to do with our horrible front yard 9Jan 28, 2009 3:45 pm It's hard to tell what's going to fit from that one photo, but how about just knocking down the white fence, giving the concrete a blast clean, and planting a nice big hedge. There are so many interesting hedge choices (many have been discussed on the forum). Do the hard jobs first. Then plant some prostrates like the Acacia, "Golden Lace" that can hang over the retaining wall. Add some King Proteas, grevilleas and Kangaroo Paws and it will look splendid. Adrian T. We are in a bit of a bind because we have pets which would need to keep secured. We've got some more contractors coming out tomorrow so hopefully someone can suggest something.
