What is best for decking? Treated pine or spotted gum?

Looking to deck our 30sq alfresco. .. any info anyone has would be great! !

I like spotted gum. I have a treated pine pergola and it's twisted to buggery

Ohhh thats no good I will steer clear from that then! Alot of ppl tend to get spotted gum. I am also interested in composite decking

I've used Blackbutt and very happy.
It is currently raw, half has been in the shade and the other half in full sun (North East facing) and had been down for 2-2.5 months and just about to coat it and only one board has a small crack.
Gave it a wash yesterday and looks like new

Always wondered though... What happens under a deck that low?
Is it concreted or just plain dirt? Will weeds grow up through the boards? Lol

A few bits of Ky tried to grow, but eventually with out sun the grass dies.

Merbau looks nice but unfortunately it's not a sustainable timber.

Due to the cost of labour, there is no point installing treated pine. You will save bugger all money and have a far inferior product compared to spotted gum in terms of durability and aesthetics.

Yup, very true. Use spotted gum. Better for the environment and Aust jobs too.

I didn't know how bad logging Merbau was until I did my research, ended up using spotted gum.
