Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We've been getting a few storms in Brisbane over the past couple of weeks, so the site supervisor has told us they'll try and get the roof on before Xmas to provide some protection whilst they're on their break. They've certainly been powering on this week so we're hoping they'll manage to do so. I'll try and get some pictures of this week's progress up at the weekend. Re: Brisbane build with Steve Parcell - framing 27Dec 19, 2014 6:53 am Hey brolga, I'm loving your thread, and the custom nature of your design. The fact the chippies are knocking the frames up on site-total respect to them and their craft. How have the storms affected you? How are you looking for the roof on before Xmas? My wife and I building our custom home in towards the city as well, and I'm praying for fine weather to get the roof on and windows in before Xmas-so fingers and toes crossed for us both . It feels like it's gonna be one helluva wet Summer. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We were a little disappointed that the roof didn't make it on by Xmas as planned, particularly given the recent wet weather. We were very pleasantly surprised therefore when we went to the house yesterday to mop it out a bit, and found someone fitting the fascia & guttering. The Site Supervisor tells us that even though the carpenters won't be returning to work until 19 January, he hopes to get the roofers in on Monday. This will be great and will give us a couple of weeks protection from the elements we didn't expect. We'll have to see though whether it comes off. How did you go with your roof Will - any luck? And which part of Brisbane are you building in? Re: Brisbane build with Steve Parcell - framing completed 30Jan 01, 2015 10:22 am I hear you about the roof... but I'm jealous that you have had some work done over this xmas / new year period. It is looking great! Really takes shape once the roof trusses are in. What colour is the roof? Re: Brisbane build with Steve Parcell - roof on 33Jan 16, 2015 1:14 pm What a beautiful looking house and certainly a lot of thought gone into making it not your average house. Will be following along your progress. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=75302 Re: Brisbane build with Steve Parcell - roof on 34Jan 17, 2015 8:37 am yvonneh - the roof colour is Woodland Grey. We've got the same colour fence, and then the neighbour put up a big shed and installed two 25,000 litre water tanks all in the same colour, so it's a little overpowering at the moment! Looking forward to a few different colours once the cladding goes up. Pleased to see that they're back into it on your place. gandn - thanks for the comments. I'll definitely be following your build as I've always entertained the idea of owner building - just didn't have the confidence to do it this time round. Re: Brisbane build with Steve Parcell - roof on 35Jan 17, 2015 1:43 pm First and possibly last owner build if things don' t go right. I'm hopeful that it will all turn out ok in the end. Really helps that at least one of us is in the trade and knows lots about building. Having the contacts in the field is a bonus too. On the other hand, i'm learning heaps thanks to this forum. Our builder holds a meeting once the frame & roof are up which we had last week. He gets all the tradies that will be involved in the next stage (electrician, plumber, cabinetmaker, air con etc) to walk us through what they'll be doing; where they'll be doing it; and to make sure it's in line with what we want. It was a great morning and all the tradies seemed so competent. Got a few things clarified and it left us feeling so confident about the rest of the build. Should hopefully have some more pics soon though, as this week they start on the bricks and weatherboards. Internal sheeting should start towards the end of next week. We're finding Steve Parcell excellent so far Nyssa+Lachlan. The workmanship seems first class and the communication has been great. They've really gone the extra mile to accommodate us - the SS & carpenters even agreed to shift a window 600mm for us after we noticed we'd get a better view by moving it slightly (no mention of a charge, so we left a carton of beer as a thank you). We're welcome on site any time, and even after lock-up they'll provide a key for us to come & go. We're very happy.
