Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 102Jan 26, 2015 1:25 pm Thanks everyone for the comments. We are very happy with the house and looking forward to getting in and putting our own touches on it... Nyssa+Lachlan - in regards to your question. We are lucky enough to have a good friend who is a sparky. So it was much more cost effective to do it this way. Down stairs we got the builders electrician to put a batten holder everywhere we wanted a light or fan etc and to put in the circuits needed. As it is a two story house it is very hard to do this after it is plastered.. Upstairs we moved the standard light to the position of the first down light and then after handover the electrician will install the extra lights. We also got in during framing stage (with permission from their sparky) to run strings throughout the top story allowing easy pulling of extra cables for extra lights etc. I would suggest maybe speaking to the electrician who is doing your work for you at the house for the builder, you may be able to arrange something with them... Its amazing how the beer economy works haha Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 103Jan 26, 2015 6:37 pm Thank you for that! We also have a sparky friend so I think I'll copy what you've done (we only have one story) that way at least we have light till it's done and it's just a matter of swapping the pendant/downlight over. Excuse my ignorance but it's not an issue to turn a batten into a downlight is it? Building a modified Simonds Palisade in Brentwood Forest. We have a good friend who is a sparky too... There's no issue turning a Batton to a downlight... They will just need to cut out a 90mm hole for a downlight and wire up a plug point . a lot of led lights can just hook up like a plug point Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 105Jan 27, 2015 6:47 am Great thank you for your help, I think you've just saved me a bomb! In your lighting consultation you need to let them know which ones are being turned into downlights. The reason for this is that if you dont they will screw the batton onto or close to a beam. This means you wont be able to drill out the 90mm hole for the downlight as there will be a beam in the way. Hope this makes sense. Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 107Jan 30, 2015 7:09 pm The lights look great too . The house must be very close to being finished, is it?! On another note, can you recommend a concreter? Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 108Feb 02, 2015 6:54 pm Thanks Molly and Lee, It sure is. We have handover on Friday.. THIS FRIDAY WOO HOO... And the converters are starting on Monday. As far as recommending a concreter, I can highly recommend Nathan from Creative Concreting. He has been very professional, always answers calls and replies to emails in a timely manner.. If you need a landscaper I can recommend someone for that as well. We have used him before in Annerley to build fences and retaining walls and is always very reasonable. Any movement on yours yet? Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 109Feb 03, 2015 3:40 pm WOW that is so soon - eeeep! This is a silly question but was are the converters? Our place hasn't started yet but hopefully within the next couple of weeks - I'm over the waiting!!! Thanks for the recommendations. Do you recall how much your concreting is costing? Also, do you currently live in Annerley? Molly Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 110Feb 03, 2015 7:22 pm Haggismac Thanks Molly and Lee, It sure is. We have handover on Friday.. Teh concrete was just over $9k. This was for the driveway, portico area, path at the front of the house and joining to a path down the right handside of the house. Thanks PEARZ.. More photos to come once we move in Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 112Feb 04, 2015 7:47 pm Hi Haggismac what type of concrete did you get? I can't tell from the picture Building a modified Simonds Palisade in Brentwood Forest. View my build thread here: viewtopic.php?t=76776 Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 114Feb 06, 2015 6:58 pm So did handover happen today?! The question about the converter was that in one of your replies to me you mentioned that the converters were starting on Monday but I now think it may have been an error thanks to autospell?! Anyway, hopefully you're out celebrating handover tonight ! Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 116Feb 14, 2015 12:27 pm Looks fabulous!!! Is that a baby bouncer I can see? We have just been handed over to construction so hoping it won't be that much longer before we get to see something other than a block of land! How long was it between the time you got handed over to construction team to earthworks commencing? Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 117Feb 16, 2015 9:38 am Hi Molly and Lee - Baby bouncer, thats correct. We have just finished the interior lights yesterday. 2 more power points going in and then we will get the exterior lights finished this week. The driveway should be sealed by the end of the day!!! As for the the starting of the construction, I cannot remember of the top of my head but maybe 2 -4 weeks. I will take some photos shortly of all the lights etc Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 118Feb 17, 2015 7:28 pm So we got a call from our site supervisor and they are planning to do the cut next Thursday and then pour the slab the following Thursday - so excited!!! How old is your little one? Re: Building a Beckham - Plantation (Henley) 119Feb 19, 2015 6:39 am Here are some updates of the house. It has been a busy week.
