I think that is a brilliant idea for a temporary solution. Currently, we are thinking if we should do the shutters and blinds with Abbey or shop around. Abbey is able to provide a private quote option and having the blinds and shutters installed before house handover. Have you done any quote comparison with others? Do you think Abbey's quote is expensive? Also, I found that the floating vanity included has a base support at the bottom which means the vanity is not hanging off the wall. Is yours the same? We were expecting Abbey to be very expensive so we got a few quotes before our consultation. We were pleasantly surprised however that they were with a couple of hundred dollars of our best quote. One reason for this was because we did not get the quote included in our tender via Eden Brae. If you do that then they add their builders' markup of at least 30%. If you go direct with Abbey they are competitive but still able to install prior to completion so your windows are fully covered before you move in. We went with timber plantation shutters throughout (except the bathrooms which are PVC) as we found that the price was similar to blinds with blockput blinds as well. The Abbey consultant was great also! Deposit paid 3/9/14. Tender signed 3/10/14. How are things going? We had our first colour appointment a couple of days before our holiday and everything went well. Our colour consultant was lovely and helpful. She was very patient with us as we had prepared a list of items (around 200 lines) and she patiently went through it with us. Unfortunately, we were unable to do Cooks Plumbing on that day as the consultant was off sick. So everything will be done in our second appointment in the coming weeks. We anticipate that it will be hectic. The kitchen upgrades really cost a lot. We are now thinking to do them partially. If we would like to do the pantry section with cabinets, should we tile over the slab and have the cabinet on top of it or should I just leave that bench section untiled? Good luck with the Cooks plumbing appointment amazingly. We found the consultant to be quite abrupt. When we told her we were building at Willowdale her comment is "why would you want to build such a nice house THERE". She was very disinterested in showing us options or providing advice. She said her job is "taking orders not providing advice". Along with Outback the worst part of the admin process. I wonder is companies like Cooks raise the damage being done to their reputation? Very unhelpful. Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 11037Jan 12, 2015 7:31 pm amazingk Hi Shayne, Thanks for recommending Ezyblinds. I think that is a brilliant idea for a temporary solution. Hey amazingK, Not a worry re: Ezyblinds. Such a cool idea if you're running out of money and need a quick fix. We went with Abbey Blinds, but we didn't go ahead straight away. We thought there quote was reasonable, but we had to allocate money elsewhere. Abbey ended up following up the quote a few months down the track and offered us a further 5% discount if we went ahead with the quote that month. We ended up agreeing and signing off the quote. We thought the sales consultant was fabulous! As for the floating vanity, yes there are two types. There is "full floating" and "floating". Full floating means the plumbing comes out from the wall and the vanity doesn't touch the ground. The regular floating vanity still has the plumbing from the floor, so the vanity is floating at the front but connects to the ground at the back. If you still have your red 'Smart Start Luxury Inclusions' booklet, there is a picture in there where you can see the tiles underneath the vanity. It's all tiled so we weren't too worried about it being 'full floating'. To upgrade to "full floating" was approx. $1,200 so we didn't bother. Shayne Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 11038Jan 12, 2015 7:56 pm Nik865 Hi guys in building the livingstone 23mk, does anybody know what the standard kitchen storage looks like or kitchen? Judging by the upgrades I've read up on its not much? Hi Nik865, Yep - not much at all! This is what you get in the kitchen: Laminex 400mm Squareform benchtops to island and cooktop run Cupboards underneath island and cooktop run (not draws!) Wire shelves only to walk-in-pantry Dishwasher provision Standard ceramic tiles for the kitchen splashback Venini 900mm Rangehood Canopy Stainless steel 900mm gas cooktop with wok burner Venini 600mm Fan Forced Oven Monaco 1.75 End Bowl Yukon Sink Mixer - Gooseneck Outlet Doesn't include: Nothing in the WIP except for wire shelves Overhead cupboards to cooktop run Cupboard above fridge Bin draw Draw under oven Anyway, hope that helps you! Shayne Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 11039Jan 12, 2015 8:02 pm Haha - we also had a terrible experience with Cooks. The consultant was not interested at all, eventually we got her to smile - but talk about hard work! Plus, it was alot of effort to try and get her to recommend upgrades. Crazy if you ask me. If you don't ask you don't get told! Re: Who else is building with Eden Brae? 11040Jan 13, 2015 9:11 am Cooks consultant wasnt pleasant at all. The outback "chick" didnt know much either and always had a blank look on her face. Regarding Abbey Blinds, we were also offered 5% discount since we didnt include the blinds into our tender...and then before finalising the PCVs...we got another follow-up quote from Abbey offering a couple of hundred $$ off the last quote. In the end we didnt go with them...as we found someone at the Better Homes and gardens show@ Olympic Park. The downside was that it was installed post handover. So my advice is to delay it as much as you can...and then finalise the quote with Abbey. They can even match quotes provided they are realistic and from a reputed company. I built with EB back on 2009.
