We're going to Choice to get bamboo floating floors and a really nice carpet with an underlay. This thread is fantastic and so helpful. Great they fixed your windows. It seems it's normal for these things to happen. House shifts with the change of weather. Needs to be broken in. I can't wait for the process to start. Merry Christmas!! Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1943Dec 20, 2014 7:46 pm No worries, our leaks happened as soon as the first rains hit...I'm just glad we picked up on it but it was way before the house settled and shifted. We have a list for the 12 month inspection to get sorted- cracks in the ceiling and window frames- that part is from settling. Other than that though we have been able to fix everything else ourselves...including the crap andscaping! Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1945Dec 20, 2014 9:23 pm Our guy pretty much told us to outsource our landscaping. We will most likely use a local to do it. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1946Dec 21, 2014 1:58 pm Mrssilverbeetle POOKS YOU'RE MAKING ME SO EXCITED! Really!? Lol....apologies if that was sarcastic and I was putting a downer on things and yay if that was for real! All of my good/exciting/yay moment posts are about 90 pages ago in this thread. It is a great process and an unreal moment to walk into your house the first time and as long as you don't have the mind set that everything will be perfect then you can't be disappointed!! Like Gaviscon Girl said previously, you find yourself making "homeowner" decisions in Bunnings that are slightly more expensive because you want to do to it right the first time. I've already chipped a tile in the ensuite- dropped my small glass bottle of deodorant from about 50cms high...the floor chipped. I was upset at first but then realised that it doesn't really matter...I have to expect these things with the quality of products and it's not like I will lose my bond money!! Haha If anyone is new to this thread, I highly recommend reading from the beginning. If I had this before I started building it would have been awesome!! Box27- how's it all going? I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1947Dec 21, 2014 2:30 pm Totally sincere. Your tips are fantastic. Learning sso much. Very appreciative. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1948Dec 21, 2014 2:57 pm So things are not going so well for us. Our house has been at a stand still for a month (completed fixing stage) and the trades are not going to come back for another six weeks, so that will be over 10 weeks with nothing happening. I can't tell you how furious my husband and I are. Part of the kitchen has to be ripped out and replaced as there were issues with it. The wall in the bathroom had to be torn down so that studs could be put in there. So over it. We have paid the fixing invoice so are paying 90% of our mortgage but can't move in for at least another 3 months. My husband sent our site supervisor a message on Thursday saying that even though our house is way past 'lock up' the doors and windows have not been locked at all. The site supervisor sent a message saying that he would be visiting every house he is managing and lock them up on Friday (last day before break up). Went for a visit today and the door and windows were still unlocked, the door was even partially open. We are so disheartened with our build. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1949Dec 21, 2014 5:46 pm Impish!!!! Oh my gosh. I am so sorry to hear about the stand still. Have they said why?? The shutdown period is only from now. That is disheartening. I'm so sorry to hear it. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1952Dec 22, 2014 3:50 pm Oh impish, I really feel for you! I tried calling David P for a different issue but he never called me back but rather my sales guy's manager. Worth a try as your issue is a bit more important. You might remember that I had water pooling towards the house, on the alfresco, instead of drainking away from the house. Anyway, someone from Boutique came by and measured up and sure enough it had to be fixed. So today, someone from Relux came by. Originally his understanding was that he just needed to do a grind and seal. He brought out the level and saw that in some places, there would need to be 20mm more concrete for it to drain properly. He called his boss who told him to grind it down and seal it "to prepare it". It made a holy mess, that's for sure, white everywhere! But that wasn't his fault. After the seal dried, I started to move back my potted plants and saw the edge of my concrete slab had very big cracks. I'm worried. This slab was poured at the same time as my whole house. I'm also thinking that if the concrete were wet enough, it would find its own level. The fact that it's not even level, but draining towards the house, tells me that the concrete was too dry when they poured it and set too fast. Not that I'm an expert, but makes sense to me. See attached photos. I tried to contact HBC, but they're closed for the holidays. I can't worry about it over the holidays or I'll make myself miserable. But I'm very concerned. What do you think? Do you remember the black HUGE plastic sheet underneath and around the slab? caused by that, from what I'm seeing Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 1958Dec 22, 2014 7:16 pm I wondered the same trambay. There were so many defects that we had other subbies come in and rectified plus going into liquidation did not help. Im assuming this were their domestic side of things. Good luck, get them to come back and voice ur concerns to both relux and hsbc. Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait!
