our slab is just under the roof but we want the decking to extend out.
is a slab required underneath the extra bit of decking?
cheers

But having a portion of the deck not over the slab will mean a different support structure, which in turn may impact the way you intend to install the deck over the slab, i.e the height of the beams/joists off the slab may affect the level of the deck overall Re: is slab required for decking 3Nov 22, 2014 10:56 pm No, you don't need an extra slab. I'm in a similar situation. I'll be building a deck on an undercover concrete alfresco area, which extends 3m beyond the house (onto dirt). I'm planning on laying joists on the alfresco concrete slab, and using stirrups supporting a bearer/joist system for the extension.
