Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Nov 26, 2014 11:57 am Hi, I've just purchased an IP Camera, specifically a Y Cam Gen 2 1080 HD bullet. When I ordered it I thought it worked with Y Cam's Homemonitor system, which I now know doesn't, I'm in need of a secure way to record the footage. I've looked at services such as MangoCam who let you upload to the cloud, but the quality is limited to a lower resolution and frame rate. Or Blue Iris/Sitehound to store locally. I'm really not sure where to start, should I get some form of network storage and hide it? Or stick to an online provider? Your thoughts would be most appreciated. Cheers Alex Re: IP Camera and cloud recording 2Dec 09, 2014 10:38 pm Personally I would setup to record locally rather than to the cloud as generally the upload speeds in Australia are horrendous to say the least. That said though, there is a post on another forum where someone is uploading his camera footage to youtube. I personally use Synology Surveillance Station recording to a Synology NAS for my storage and emailing. Re: IP Camera and cloud recording 3Dec 10, 2014 7:28 am Hi Bels. A few things have changed since my last post I haven't opened the Y Cam and will be returning it. I've purchased a Hikvision NVR and 4 turret IP cameras, which are going to be connected to a switch. Got it all yesterday, but having some issues in setting up the cameras to be accessible directly through the switch. I will be recording to the NVR but I'm also looking at using something like Cammy to have off site storage too. Re: IP Camera and cloud recording 5Dec 10, 2014 9:33 pm To be honest I'm not really sure what I'm doing, still can't get it working correctly I thought it'd be easier to connect to the cams externally if they were connected just to the switch, but for some reason I can't connect directly to the cameras at all. At the moment they are connected to the DVR and the cameras work through the web interface and the IVMS software. But I'd like to access the cameras externally and have no idea how. I want to add them to cammy.com on my phone but the port scan doesn't find them, and if I try and add them manually I still need to access the camera directly so I can add the ftp details. Do you have any Hikvision equipment? Re: IP Camera and cloud recording 6Dec 11, 2014 4:08 pm You can always record footage and store it to your computer locally. cloud storage has limitations and the resolution mayu be affected Re: IP Camera and cloud recording 7Dec 11, 2014 4:09 pm It'll be saved to the NVR which can record at full frame rate, but I want to have it stored off site too. Not so worried about the quality here, as it's just for worst case scenario if the NVR is stolen. I'm pretty sure the latest NVR firmware supports virtual host but don't quote me. You'll need to port forward the ports. Why not use iVMS-4500 on a smart phone? Quote: Do you have any Hikvision equipment? Had 3 Hikvision cams up until recently but they're taken down due to the renovation happening at home. I have another 8 cams to add to them. You need to hide the NVR better What I planned into my renovation was a utility cupboard to house surveillance and security gear. Re: IP Camera and cloud recording 10Dec 12, 2014 3:11 pm Hi Bels, Yep the newer firmware is supposed to have virtual host settings, mine was running 3.0.8 and didn't have it, so upgraded to the latest version 3.0.10 and it doesn't have it either. I'll look into the port forwarding, thank you. I've got the iVMS-4500 ap but unless I'm doing something wrong it can't find the cameras. The DVR can find the cameras, but even the desktop SADP software doesn't find them either. I'm going to put the server cabinet on the wall in the garage, it'll be 3m high bolted through a brick wall so will be very awkward to get. I could run a cat6 up to a cupboard which will be almost exactly on top on the floor above. But think I prefer all the switch gear etc in one box. Update from me!
