Browse Forums Safer Living 1 Oct 23, 2014 8:44 pm Hi,
We've just purchased another home in Perth, which we will be moving into in the new year. Settlement is not until the end of November. Once we get a hold of the keys, we will spend the rest of the year doing up the inside of the house before we move in and would be the perfect time to fit the house with smart wiring, an alarm and CCTV system. I will also be looking at Home automation, mainly to control the air-conditioner and lighting. The house we are moving to is 2 story and quite large and looking at recommendations for a Perimeter/Wireless Alarm System as well as a IP CCTV system. Products I am looking at are Hills/DAS, Bosch, Paradox and Texecom. I've only just started researching CCTV and the HikVision 2332 3mp camera seems like a good starting point for a camera. I've worked out that the new house has 3 Glass Sliding Doors, 4 Wooden Doors (Double Front Wooden Doors, 2 Wooden Door Opening up to a Balcony upstairs and a wooden shopper's entry door from the Garage), 28 Sliding Windows, 1 Large Double Remote Garage Door and 1 rear garage roller door. I will also be installing a PIR inside the ceiling on the second floor and one in the ceiling of the 1st floor. That's almost a mix of 40 type of sensors and does not include PIR's inside the house. Looks like I'm going to require an alarm system that can cater for at least 50 zones unless I combine windows in rooms onto one zone to reduce the number of Zones. Some features I would like at the new property are: - LCD Keypad. One downstairs at the shopper's entry from the garage and one in the master bedroom - The ability for the alarm system to text your mobile if the alarm goes off or you can send an SMS to the alarm to get a system update. - The ability to use a phone app to query the status of the alarm system. This would mean that the alarm system has an ethernet port that then connects to your broadband router. - Connect smoke alarms to the alarm system for monitoring - When you disable the alarm, certain lights in the house turn on. Home automation required? - Disable/enable the alarm as well open/close 2 x garage roller doors on the one remote keyring - Alarm can be disable/enabled without an audible chirp via a multi-purpose remote. If I use a Texecom Ricochet Keyfob, you can disable/enable the alarm without audible chirps. However, if you use a multi-purpose key remote with the Texecom, you get an audible chirp. I don't want people hearing us disarming an alarm in the middle of the night. - IP CCTV POE cameras to monitor front, rear and side access. - CAT 6E Wiring throughout. I already have Cisco POE switches so would only require a Cat 6E Patch Panel at a central location - Install a Video Intercom system at the gate, which can be monitored from inside. I also want to be able to open the gate remotely for visitors. I've also read somewhere that some intercom's can take a photo of the person at the gate, every time the buzzer is pressed. Good to know who's been at the house when you're not home. We have a One Year Old Texecom Alarm System installed at our existing home and looking at the option of porting the main guts of the Texecom Alarm to the next house. Parts I want to port is a Texecom Premier 832 Panel and matching Premier832 Metal Box, Premier LCD Large Keypad, Ricochet Elite 32 Zone Wireless Receiver, 2 x Ricochet Wireless Keyfob's and 2 x Ricochet Wireless/Shock Magnetic Sensors. Our existing home is 3 bedroom and the Texecom seems overkill and thought it would be a waste to leave it and better off porting it to the new home. If I port parts of the Texecom, I would need to replace it with a new alarm system. I believe the Texecom cannot send SMS messages but sends an audible tone only? Which alarm product can integrate into a home automation system? Any recommendations in which product to use for Home Automation. I only want to control things like lights and the air-conditioner away from home. At this point int time, I have no intention of having the alarm(s) monitored. Should I: 1) Leave the Texecom as is in our existing home 2) Remove parts of the Texecom and install a new alarm at the old house and port to the new house and and finish off with new parts or 3) Go for a completely new system in the new house (probably the most logical solution). Thanks for your help in advance. Cheers Re: Alarm System + IP CCTV - Moving to a 2-Storey Home 2Oct 24, 2014 8:21 am Go for 3, a completely new system. Moving parts from an old system to match up with a new system isn't going to save you much at all, and remember you've been using that old system in your current house for X many years already, so you'd be installing a secondhand system in your new home. Also remember that whilst sms seems to be a pretty reliable system, it is not the primary reason for a mobile network, i.e. sms is a secondary purpose, and as such there is no guarantee of reliability or timeliness of getting a sms to your phone. Re: Alarm System + IP CCTV - Moving to a 2-Storey Home 3Oct 24, 2014 8:49 am After realising how many Zones I may require, The Texecom Premier 832 cannot be expanded any further than 32 Zones so I'm going to need to look into other panels anyway. I could combine windows in some rooms, which may reduce the number of Zones I require to get it under 32 Zones but I prefer the idea of having each sensor separated onto its each zone. I don't know what the warranty situation will be if Alarm companies will be installing a part used system along with their new parts. I'd imagine that they won't be able to provide any basis of a warranty for they system, only for the parts they supply and install. I'll keep researching what I need. Cheers and thanks. Re: Alarm System + IP CCTV - Moving to a 2-Storey Home 4Nov 11, 2014 2:50 pm You could go down the DIY Home Automation route, which can take care of some of your security sensor requirements at the same time. Start with a Z-Wave hub, either the Fibaro HCL or the Vera Lite, both can handle up to 230 devices. http://www.smartliving.com.au/fibaro-home-center-2-system-lite.html http://www.smartliving.com.au/vera-lite-au-home-controller.html Then add your Door and Window sensors, which when triggered can send an alert to your phone http://www.smartliving.com.au/fibaro-door-and-window-sensor-plus-binary-input-black.html Or a 4-in-1 PIR sensor (Motion, Temp, Light and Vibration) http://www.smartliving.com.au/fibaro-z-wave-motion-sensor-4-in-1-pir.html Remote Garage Door controller, coupled with a door sensor and limit switch you can get the 'status' of the door from your smartphone or PC. http://zwave.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=100 And of course all your automated lighting needs http://zwave.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=44 All of these devices will talk wirelessly back to the Z-Wave hub and report status where applicable. Custom scenes and actions can be created based upon certain triggers, etc. HikVision and Foscam IP Cameras can also be integrated into the Z-Wave hub and provide more control via other sensors. Check out all the different Z-Wave devices and uses here: http://zwave.com.au/index.php Best thing is, these can all be retrofitted to a home quite easily. Bosch is good too.
