Building with Kurmond Homes

We didn't think we were upgrading as such, but things you think are included might not be. For instance the front door wasn't upgraded but we changed the glass on the door from clear to frosted which was a cost, then the handles that everyone likes are not standard they are an upgrade. Cost varies depending on which one you pick.

Someone mentioned they give you a driveway they might but the standard one is not user friendly, as we found out. It is narrow for one car and then when you build your driveway they hit you with changes like thickened edges and then changing the shape which should have been discussed and included as part of the package. After all why include a driveway if it doesn't match the house or garage.

We did upgrade the vanities as the standard are not what we wanted, changes in colour of kitchen cupboards is also extra.

Carpet is also mentioned, we upgraded the carpet standard one is preetty rough.

Tiles were pretty good, extra cost though because we added wall tiles in our pantry and laundry, cost change pretty reasonable.

I suppose what you need to know all builders will have extra charges in some shape and form. Unfortunately thou you don't really know until you go through the process, from beginning to end, and you really don't have a choice to pay extra when they say so. For example piering, haven't met anyone who hasn't paid extra in piers, can't really so no I don't want those extra deep piers.

Good luck, we have been in our house a month now and we are happy, have a a few things on our maintenance but can't really complain as compared to our first build this has been better.

Victoria yes the crossover comes back to a one car width. We didn't realise when the plan was done and no one mentioned it. So it starts at the width of the double then goes to 1 car. When we did the build we noticed how thin it was and raised it as a concern, if we changed it it was going to cost a lot and also, we would have to go through council approval again, time delay. Put it in the too hard basket as we just wanted it over and done with by then. Besides that though the concreter's thincken the edges to make it all level with the front patio and then did change the shape a bit to make it wider before crossover to make it easier for the cars but couldn't widen crosssover without council approval. All at an extra $$$ of course. It is a little bit of pain now as cars are outside not in the garage, but once we clear the garage it should be ok.

Siri33 no we got the one from kurmond, 3000L, and im pretty sure its colourbond. Sorry i dont know much about it.

suby_guy you can pretty much select any bricks from PGH and Boral. Kurmond has different ranges you can select from standard, silver and gold range, which the higher you go the more expensive it is. In our package we could select anything from the silver range but we ended up paying more as we liked the one in the gold range. Our bricks are from PGH name contour.

We're also building in Jordan Springs with Kurmond and expect hand over next week (although having issues with the kitchen which you can see in my other thread that may affect it). From what I understand you need to have completed the landscaping in 3 moths but whether or not you need to follow the landscaping plan to the letter I'm unsure. We're probably going to do what was originally on our landscaping plan then make modifications afterwards (although not rip the whole thing out).

Where abouts in JS did you build? We're in illoura...

I would advise you to contact Rebecca Minney and the Lend Lease office and get a clear definition of what is required for Boronia. Having said that we have just recently been down that path with no issues what so ever. For us (Illoura) it was that proposed front gates were to be a minimum set back of 2m from the front building line,at least 50% of plants must be native and that any garden edging visible from the street must of brick or coloured concrete etc.
