O.P.
Need some advice on pool issue with suction line.
My pool has an issue with the suction side piping. In normal operation it runs fine but when I put the vac plate on and attache the suction cleaner, after about 10 mins I start to get an air build up in the pump basket.
The build up continues until it reaches the inlet port to the impeller (after which I crank the pump to hi speed and it goes back over the port to about a third). I have purchased a new cleaner (came with skimtrol plate and hose) and it does the same thing. I have checked the gaskets on the pump lid and suction fitting and they are fine also. I suspect I have a small leak or crack in the suction piping/connections between pump and skimmer box.
Not looking forward to maybe having to dig and try and find leak. When they built the pool they have used 40mm pipe for everything. I was thinking that if I have to dig up the suction line I may as well replace it with 50mm pipe as I have been told this is better for pumping.
Question, is that worthwhile doing if the return lines and the rest of the pool shed piping stay at 40mm?
