Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 7Nov 07, 2008 11:02 pm I have the 'rangehood ducting outside' recommened by the 5 stars report, can't remember exactly what the reason, i think it is something to do with the airflow...
But personally i do want it to duct outside, just don't want any duct and/or oil trapped in the roof Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 8Nov 07, 2008 11:04 pm Hi Haywgl,
I'm not sure it is illegal in Vic cos i was charged if I wanted to vent external. I guess if it is illegal than builder can't charge you extra and would have included in the base price of the house. Call up BACV or an independent inspector to make sure though. venting rangehood to outside 12Nov 08, 2008 4:54 pm We are building with M and were initally told that we would be charged $250 or so to vent outside. I rang up Baumatic who supply the rangehood and oven and they stated it was illegal to have the rangehood vented to the roof space. I also read the standard specifications list of M and it stated two storey homes are "externally vented". I stated both of these things to M and they are now not charging us for venting outside-but i think they might have if i hadn't made an issue of it. Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 13Nov 10, 2008 7:37 pm I just got this reply from my CSC when I told her it was illegal to have the rangehood ducted to the roof space:
"In relation to the vent for the rangehood, the steam is ducted out to an outlet to the exterior wall." Does this mean Im ok? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 14Nov 10, 2008 8:01 pm haywgl "In relation to the vent for the rangehood, the steam is ducted out to an outlet to the exterior wall." Bel, are they talking about before or after you upgrade? Either way, it's a funny choice of words to use but sounds ok! Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 16Nov 10, 2008 8:03 pm We had to pay PD to duct it outside and even then they didn't do it and we had to get it done with the 3 month check. Make sure they tell you exactly how they intend to do it and have it in writing. Hi jspitz, do you know if the free vent to outside only applies to double storey houses? We are also building with M but we will have a single storey and M is charging us to vent outside! Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 18Nov 13, 2008 10:56 pm We are building a single storey with PD, it's costing us $175 to duct the rangehood externally through the roof. Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 19Nov 16, 2008 10:25 pm this is what i have seen on a friend's new house: -
the pipe (foil pipe) connect to the rangehood will have to be long enough to lead to the exterial outlet - a round vent on the exterial wall. well, this is what everybody should get - ducting to the roof space is a no no - not only you can smell the food upstairs (the smell go through the carpet!! ) , but also given time, your carpet, walls, timber frames will absorb the food smell and it stinks. nh Re: Rangehoods (ducted to exterior) 20Nov 16, 2008 10:46 pm I am pretty sure PD do the same as Carlisle Homes with this.
This vent is at the back wall of my kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the inside of the kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It appears from the inside to be ducted up through the roof but it is rear vented!
