Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Sink Strainer Plugs Not Holding Water 7Aug 27, 2014 4:27 pm Anyone that has strainer /basket waste issues. A lot of manufacturers use a unique waste & plug. It's not universal. The diam. of the basket cup, or the pin varies. You're trying to put a "Holden motor in a Ford". If you do not know who manufactured the sink, you're best off replacing the basket, and the waste. Buy yourself a common brand basket & plug, and you will always be able to get a replacement plug. Stick to Art Plastics, Oliveri's or Abey's, and you're set for life. I can still get plugs for Oliveri sinks that are more then 13 years old. Stick to brands!! Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Do they stamp it in a certain spot as I want to see what it is. 'It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.' Re: Sink Strainer Plugs Not Holding Water 9Sep 02, 2014 12:59 pm I asked this exact question at Masters and the man there told me you can buy new rubber seals for your original strainer/plug and that they have to be replaced regularly - first I'd heard of it lol Re: Sink Strainer Plugs Not Holding Water 10Sep 05, 2014 9:51 pm Thanks for the tip bluebettie99. I sent hubby down to the big green shed today in search of the replacement seals. He returned with a packet of Kinetic ASSORTED BASKET STRAINER WASHERS. Both sinks now holding water. Cost: $3.57 Hope this helps you Sir Snagger. http://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-bask ... s_p4920211 Regards, Grumbles Re: Sink Strainer Plugs Not Holding Water 11Aug 18, 2018 10:47 pm Hi Guys, Not all sink plug/strainers are the sme size. If your sink is pre 2010 then the new plugs/strainers won't work. They will leak. I have an Oliveri sink pre 2010 and had to order plugs especially @ $15.95 each! Re: Sink Strainer Plugs Not Holding Water 12Jul 08, 2019 6:17 pm Hi All You are correct the bunnings kinetic did not work......still leaked even when we used 2 washers as suggested above So we made one out of a toilet cistern washer by cutting out the centre with a 1/4 inch chisel.........the outside diameter of the washer is slightly larger than the origional washer that lasted 14 years.. probably leaked for the last few years......our remedy has been to put vaseline on the rubber..........this did not last long........sent money it is fixed!!!! Re: Sink Strainer Plugs Not Holding Water 13Jul 09, 2019 9:34 am the cistern washer is J valve for a Elderware cistern branded hands bits that I have had for many years.........I have just made another one for the other sink waste..........I use the old washer to mark out a circle inside the washer .........then cut around with a sharp 1/4 inch chisel cutting the centre out ........it does not seem to have to be too accurate as when you tighten up it does not leak..........the second one has worked as well !!!!! 1 is free to air and the other 2 are for cable TV all of them completely useless in 2024 1 2253 Have had stone benches with undermount sink (kitchen) and drop-in (laundry) and top-mounted basin (bathrooms) for coming up 13 years and not one chip/scratch of any kind.… 2 9673 The HIA contract, in the term & conditions section states that "Commencment" is deemed when the drainage is started or the piers are dug or the slab is formed up (incase… 2 6150 |
