Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 13, 2014 3:05 pm Hi I am thinking of a free standing bath and if it is worth the extra cost. I don't have any kids yet but we are building our future family home. So from the parents out there is a freestanding bath any trickier for littlies? I am just thinking that a normal bath has the ledge to pop different things on when you are in there with them.. any tips? My rule is that form should never precede function but of course I want it to all look beautiful as well... Re: Freestanding baths and kids 2Aug 14, 2014 10:12 am We went with something in the middle. Caroma make a back to wall bathtub that has a free standing look, though its back sits along the wall. So you can lay a bead of silicone across the back and use it as a ledge. Comes in 1600mm and 1800mm: http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/bath ... nding-bath And yes, it is great with the kids. Re: Freestanding baths and kids 3Aug 14, 2014 12:27 pm I have three little kids and I prefer the bath in a hob. Just you somewhere to sit and put all their toys and things to dry afterwards. Re: Freestanding baths and kids 4Aug 14, 2014 12:36 pm I agree I prefer the hob to sit on and for the bath toys, shampoo etc but I'm sure you could make a freestanding bath work as well if you need to. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Freestanding baths and kids 5Aug 17, 2014 2:24 pm Good tips thanks all. Still undecided. We are a very long way off tho haven't even tendered yet, probably the least of my worries, want to do as much deciding up front though. Re: Freestanding baths and kids 6Sep 15, 2018 7:44 pm Hi, I am also trying to buy new home here in Adelaide and looking for bath and furniture options for my kids. I have also decided to go with tub. Its easy to sit and bath and play with toys. I love the way it looks and if I add a niche, the kids can put their soap/shampoo in that rather than on a ledge of the bath if that makes sense. Re: Freestanding baths and kids 8Sep 23, 2018 1:06 pm you will need an alcove in the wall or a bath caddy to put soap, face washers, rubber ducky etc cleaning around the tub would be my concern, not sure how you clean between the tub and the wall Re: Freestanding baths and kids 9Oct 01, 2018 2:09 pm We could have gone freestanding, but ended up doing a bigger hob so adults can sit on the edge. It's very handy, for young kids and even up to 8 to 9 years old freestanding baths are tough. For resale, freestanding is nice but wont suit younger families. Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
