Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 08, 2014 12:33 am Just joined... I'm looking at purchasing a plot of land that has a partial construction (plate height no roof) - the land is being sold as 'vacant land' so the current structure is an added bonus. The original Builders can complete the build - at a cost - but husband is a bricklayer and is capable of overseeing the project himself. Only issue is he does not hold a builders licence. The brickwork is all done so we would employ a roofer, plumber and electrician to complete the major bits, but rest ie fitting a kitchen, bathroom, tiling, plastering, painting, landscaping etc husband is capable of doing himself. Question: Will he still need to obtain a builders licence to complete this project? Will the licences of the professional companies used be sufficient? What are the legalities we must follow when owner building? This will be our first investment project so any tips/advice or links? Much appreciated, Tania Re: Owner Builder - The Requirements 3Aug 08, 2014 5:59 am The information you require can be found here. https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building-commission/building-or-renovating-your-home Also a good idea to have a chat with the building inspector at your local council, ultimately this is the person you have to please.
