Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 24, 2014 7:44 pm Hi all, Just fishing for a little advice. We are a few days away from PCI and all our appliances have been installed, we supplied our own cooktop, oven and range hood but paid the builder to install them. According to our contact we have 1 single power point for the range hood, fridge and dishwasher. The dishwasher and fridge power points are just a standard power point which we expected. The range hood however is a completely different story! Upon inspecting the range hood today my husband noticed that behind the range hood (its a slide out one) there is a gaping big hole that the power cord is thread through. The electricians have just smashed the tiles behind it (not even cut them neatly) and apparently the range hood is connected to power inside the wall. It means we cannot turn it on or off and that if we ever wanted to replace it with anything else, there would be a big hole in the wall! To us this is not a 'power point' as stated in our contract. We have brought the situation up with our Site Supervisor but he basically just said that this is the way it's usually done so that they don't have to cut a hole into the cabinetry. Needless to say we were not too happy with the answer and plan on taking the matter further. Has anyone else come across an issue like this? If so how was it resolved? :-D Modified Miami 31- Brighton Homes https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=91265&f=31&p=1789112#p1789112 Re: Power to Range Hood 2Jul 24, 2014 8:40 pm hi we are putting our rangehood in after handover. Hubby say that our will be hardwired in. Some rangehoods are plugins and some are hardwired. you can make a hardwired a plugin. do you have a photo of the rangehood? if your contract states that its a powerpoint I would be asking them to change it a to fix the hole. If the power is in the wall wouldn't it also be in the roof space? Where is the powerpoint going? in the roof space ? we are supplying our ovens and cooktop and the builder and the Cabinet Make have be very helpful. The cabinet maker calls up hubby to ask questions about how he wants it. ![]() our build pointed out to us that our warming drawer is a plugin before Hubby spotted it on the plans. Re: Power to Range Hood 3Jul 24, 2014 9:12 pm Thanks for the reply. It's a plug in rangehood. We had some drama with the installation and had someone who works for Bosch come out and take a look (family member). Apparently it's meant to be plugged into a power point inside the overhead cupboard, which is also where the ventilation shaft connects to the ceiling. Instead it's just loosely hanging on the inside of the wall behind the unit. As you can see from the photo we've also got a drama with the length of the overhead cupboard doors, which we have requested they fix. It's really the only drama we've had so far with the build so nothing that we can really complain about, there was bound to be problems somewhere along the line! Just so excited about impending handover and hoping this won't hold us up too much! Not sure how many do new builds, but… 1 624 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 15636 2 16309 ![]() |
