Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 21, 2014 7:47 pm Hi Guys, My partner and I are in the progress of finding land to purchase to build our new home. We already have our house plans done and pretty much dusted and have picked an ideal block in Silkwood Estate, Mount Cotton (yet to purchase.) This is our first build and we are pretty excited but nervous at the same time. We are after any feedback of people that have previously built in the same area and an issues they came across? Also if you have any tips and advice on building, that would be much appreciated. We are trying to minimise any unexpected costs that may arise, which I know is pretty much inevitable but as most people would we are trying to be as prepared as possible. All your help is muchly appreciated! Look forward to hearing any feedback. Re: First build - Silkwood Mount Cotton 2Jul 21, 2014 9:43 pm Welcome to the forums! I just replied to your post on my thread too but thought I'd ask who are you building with? I've also checked out stage 11 plans - which block/s were you looking at? Enjoy the process J. We are going with Burbank Homes, something different i'm sure there a none if not many in that area. We are looking at block 1117. Process is already stressful and we haven't started anything yet! Just trying to be as prepared as we can before we get ourselves into anything. Re: First build - Silkwood Mount Cotton 4Jul 22, 2014 12:35 pm Nice block! Similar size to ours - ours is 759... and looking at the contour plan hardly any slope either and you will have retaining wall done behind your house which is the same as us too! Def's the best block in Stage 11.. haha yes it is stressful leading up to the build and than atleast for us, it has been going quite fast and good the past month! I think i recall Diane mentioning something about the retaining wall and rear fence is provided, will have to double check that one. We haven't got anything locked in yet, so hopefully we can get that block. Just waiting for our builder to get back to us on some other prices, already waiting!!! Re: First build - Silkwood Mount Cotton 6Jul 23, 2014 2:06 pm Yeah our back fence was all done and sitting on top of the pre-done retaining wall by Silkwood as well so that's a good sign! haha yep the initial wait can be exhausting but fingers crossed you get that block! After stage 11 there is only 1 stage left over our side of the estate - stage 5 so I'm sure they will rise the prices for the last stage Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68375 If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board.
