Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Fibre Optics Installations 27Oct 26, 2008 11:17 am ausfatcat Now honestly answer this question do think that if Telstra was allowed to get rid of their wholesale network (not sell wholesale to other ISP's) that it would be a good thing for the general Australian public? Telstra doesn't want to stop wholesale to other ISP's as long as they can put their own price on it. Which is fair enough, they are a business, if the other companies don't want to pay the price to access the network then they need to build their own networks. Telstra only held off on ADSL2 because they would have been forced to wholesale it at prices that were not reasonable. This was the regulators faults not Telstra. If there was no red tape Telstra would have had ADSL2 a long time ago. As far as the NBN goes.. the 6 terria companies are just wasting time. There is no way they are capable of building that network.... and I think everyone knows that!!! Oh and that website doesn't hide the fact it is owned by Telstra. You just have to look at the taskbar at the top or scroll to the bottom... All I said was if you want factual information about Telstra and regulation look at that website, not comments by 13 year old teenagers that want cheap internet. Anyway this argument is not going anywhere. You would rather support overseas companies that don't want to invest in regional areas.. and I would rather support a Australian company that treats the bush the same as the city... I guess it is because I grew up in the country and we didn't have a choice of carrier due to these overseas companies only putting their money in the quick fix areas... Re: Fibre Optics Installations 28Oct 26, 2008 11:51 am wakeboardandy Telstra only held off on ADSL2 because they would have been forced to wholesale it at prices that were not reasonable. This was the regulators faults not Telstra. If there was no red tape Telstra would have had ADSL2 a long time ago. Delayed releasing in it after it was installed in areas that didn't have competitors Dslams in place already yes, but they were still several years behind the competitors in installing them into any market. wakeboardandy Telstra doesn't want to stop wholesale to other ISP's as long as they can put their own price on it. Which is fair enough, they are a business, Which is why they will never get to place there own price on the wholesale price. Because in theory if they had that ability (and without a doubt they would do it, I know I would) the could make the wholesale price anything they wanted and run all the competition out of business very quickly, and then literally charge anything they want to the public and we all would pay. There is a reason why successive governments haven't changed this. With the NBN I wasn't talking about terria I counted them as one company, there are several other companies bidding for it as well, such as axia, acacia ect ect. wakeboardandy You would rather support overseas companies that don't want to invest in regional areas No I want to support Australian companies and do when I can and pay extra for as well. But just because a company is australian (telstra is 30% oversea's owned) doesn't mean you bend over and let them give it to you. when again THEY ARE THE MOST PROFITABLE TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY IN THE WORLD. wakeboardandy Australian company that treats the bush the same as the city Clearly you have a selective memory optus is about to invest 300 odd million into expanding regional services. And telstra has to get a subsidy from the government to just about do anything in the bush as well so don't tell me Telstra loves the bush so much. Look at there NBN proposal rollout for Telstra first 2-3 years metro city only, 5-8 years then country. Terria COUNTRY first. Yep Telstra loves the bush the same as the metro, infact there first NBN proposal didn't include a rollout to the country at all!!! www.tellthetruthtelstra.com.au is the non-telstra equivalent to nowwearetalking.com.au but didn't mention it before as it is biased (but factual) and cherry picks as well. Do you think if there is a piece of information or fact that makes Telstra look bad they would post it on nowwearetalking.com.au? No they wouldn't that makes it biased and not the whole story, you will get a more complete picture at whirlpool.net.au than either of the above websites. Personally I would like to see either of the following happen with the NBN FTTH keeping the copper network in place won by anyone but telstra to allow two competing networks (very unlikely to happen and cost prohibitive). or a structurally seperated Telstra win the NBN. I wont hold my breath for either to happen with someone like Conroy (very ignorant fellow) in charge. As I'm note sure where you got this info from. http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008 ... rofit.html Re: Fibre Optics Installations 30Oct 26, 2008 12:22 pm Telstra is actually more profitable than Telecom New Zealand
