Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 20, 2014 12:38 am Well, here goes... I have been stalking H1 for some 12 months now, and decided it was about time I thanked you all for your ideas, advice and creativity. What a fantastic forum. I have drooled over 'Show me your Kitchen' and your home pics, and searched many a topic to help me in decisions for our new home! My turn to share, especially with pics, coz I know how much everyone just loves to see a house go up, and see colour selections etc. I just hope I can get the photos on coz I am pretty techno challenged!
My partner and I are building on 170acres in the beautiful south west of WA. We are up to the roof stage but have had some problems that we are waiting to be fixed so we can start on the inside. I thank you guys again coz without you I would not be so aware of the rollercoaster of emotions that go with building. You want to be happy but you feel so damn mad at the same time!! I will hopefully get you up to date with our journey so far with.. YES!!.. pictures. I would love to hear any opinions/ideas etc, and hope that you enjoy our ride as much as I have loved all of yours. Here is the view from our house paddock. Western red cedar front doors. Hopefully will come together alright. Bricks are super wet and dirty, and look much darker than they will be. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen colours- Benchtop Essastone terrazzo. Just love the earthy grey and caramel chips through this. Kitchen cupboards are Platinum Micro which I am yet to see a photo of in a kitchen and would love to see any if you have them. Super colour-changes with light and angles from stone to greige! Splashback will be white gloss 300x600mm tiles. Flooring throughout main living area/kitchen underneath swatches minus the yellow tinge! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Main bathroom. Benchtop- Platinum Micro, Cupboards- Charred Oak(horizontal grain), Floor tile-Chocolate Ocre 200x200 (underneath swatches), Wall tile-White gloss 200x400. Absolutely loved the floor tile colour and texture but couldn't get in any larger size so had to either change it or bite the bullet! Reckon it should be fine! No granny beige for me! Wanted a sexy bathroom so hoping it works! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And to finish off my all in one progress update, I have to share how truly lucky we are. I was walking our dogs the other night and happened upon this picture... am sure it is worth the years that have gone into endless fencing and improvements, and the long wait to begin building! Just Wow! Thanks again everyone. I will try to keep you posted as we continue the ride... I am just so happy to be able to finally do this-with lots of help from my son (with rolling eyes at my complete ignorance!!) Would you, or any of the regular H1 users, be able to tell me how I go about putting the build thread link ie viewtopic... on my posts please? That view is a million bucks!! I'm with Belzey, the green landscape of the south west is beautiful. Best of luck with the rest of the build, your dream home is stunning. Re: New build - Summit in the South West 10Jul 20, 2014 3:33 pm Thanks AKB..I did it! And thanks kexkez, Marcia and Heyzy for your kind words. Yes we are moving along-its gone quicker for you guys coz I've taken so long to get it all up for you to see!! We have sheep and a few cows, and my DH breeds and trains pacers so we have a few too many horses as well! Keeps us out of mischief, most of the time. I will check out all your builds later today coz I'm looking forward to sharing info etc. Yours is looking great AKB- beautiful use of wood and unique ideas. Well done you! Oh, and how could I forget - there are 3 gorgeous kids thrown into the mix, chooks and 3 dogs. My favourite girl is pictured - I LOVE that red dog!!! Re: New build - Summit in the South West 11Jul 21, 2014 1:57 am Rache Geez, thanks belzey! Just had a look at your plan.. its huge and I love it! And yes, it is very beautiful down our way, but can get so chilly too! You are welcome it really is so stunning, those views in winter with a fire going = perfect! Thanks Rache I am looking forward to the whole build process to really kick in. New build in the South West - update! 12Jul 22, 2014 11:34 pm Sadly, I have to join Marcia in the seriously frustrated bucket. Our build has come to a halt as our roof is not adequately supported, we have leaks into the eaves, crooked ridge capping and our exposed timber is internal wood instead of external so our entire verandah has to be removed along with plumbing pipes etc...AAAAhhhhhhh!!!! The good news is that our builder has promised to fix all the problems. The bad news is we have to wait for materials to be ordered/delivered, and the weather to improve before anyone will get on the roof! The joys!! Take a deep breath...count to 10000.....!!!!! Re: New build in the South West - update! 13Jul 26, 2014 8:21 pm Just a quick update... I have changed my main bathroom floor tile. I think the tile shop should have a special ringtone just for me and perhaps a file instead of a sheet! I have changed my mind so many times they probably duck and hide when they see me coming!! I seriously think you should be allowed to make your choices as your build progresses coz you have more of an idea of what looks good then. Such a huge job to make so many decisions in one hit at prestart! Anyway, I have chosen a 300x300 tile called Cinnamon - a few shades lighter than original choices as I am hoping it will brighten up the room a bit and be a better contrast with the charred oak cupboards. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also, I have to reselect my pavers as the lovely Wickham (colour like the roof), have been discontinued. I was going to have these with the cream border. I am now at a bit of a loss. I have to be practical, coz being on a property with mud and animals I can't have light grey or cream. I am considering using red with a cream border and bringing it together with cultured stone on the portico. This has lovely greys and earthy reds through it. It may give the house some wow factor, or it may completely ruin the look. Has anyone done anything similar? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Re: New build in the South West - update! 14Jul 27, 2014 6:53 pm Hi Rache - I'm with the others - WOW what a spectacular view how fortunate you are. Sorry to hear about the frustrations though Love your floor plan - it sure does make good use of the lovely views, and I'm in love with your colour choices. We're also thinking to go greys and love both the before and after tiles - and can't wait to see the platinum micro - it sounds perfect Re: New build in the South West - update! 15Jul 27, 2014 7:39 pm I live the new tile colour - sorry no idea re the paving viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: New build in the South West - update! 17Jul 27, 2014 11:56 pm MalSannie Hi Rache - I'm with the others - WOW what a spectacular view how fortunate you are. We're also thinking to go greys and love both the before and after tiles - and can't wait to see the platinum micro - it sounds perfect Thanks MalSannie for your kind words and commiserations! I do feel very lucky to be able to build on such a beautiful property. I still have to pinch myself when I take the dogs for a walk and am surrounded by green paddocks and national forest. The greys have kinda evolved since prestart - I had initially chosen lots of grey/brown tones, and much darker shades. Hoping it will be brighter but still warm now. Really love white, but we have orphan lambies in our kitchen and living area in the winter months and just couldn't see the white holding up so well!! Re: New build in the South West - update! 18Jul 28, 2014 12:05 am Thanks AKB and Melsie. I am much happier with the lighter tile. Fingers crossed! Re: New build in the South West - update! 19Jul 28, 2014 12:22 am Helli rache, thought I'd pop over and have a better look at your build. Your lighter tile is gorgeous - similar tone to what we are having. I would of loved a darker charcoal tile but the thought of calcium marks on dark tile swayed me. Re: New build in the South West - update! 20Jul 28, 2014 12:28 am Yeh you don't won't that . Apparently (which I was told on Friday. Black tiles the worse to choose in wet areas because of calcium build up . Damn no one told me that lol . So I wipe my shower floor every time I have a shower ( trying to teach my partner ) not working . Not a good idea to leave water to dry on dark tiles . Vinegar and bi carb takes it off .but don't let it get bad . But I don't know if it is the same case in living areas .
