Fantastic progress and well done on your lighting selections Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Custom Design 5 Acres Northern NSW - Shed (Week 9) 89Aug 04, 2014 2:07 pm I must admit I have been a little slack, in updating. It's a struggle to get the update right. All my photos are on my phone, but it's really hard to type on my phone. But on the computer, I can't add photos easily. So I am going to try to meld these 2 together. Hope this works. I have a few weeks worth of updates to do, but we will start with the shed. We have used a different contractor for the shed, than the build. Mostly to save a bit of money, but our builder wasn't overly keen on doing the shed. We also thought it would be best to get the shed contractor to do the whole job (ie slab as well as erect shed), in case anything went wrong, there was no question as to who had to fix the problem. So, slab poured a few weeks ago. Once we had gone over with the contractor where it had to go (apparently site plan provided weeks ago wasn't useful????), and what way to face (towards road maybe!!) the slab was poured with little issue. Not long after, erection commenced. But it seems to be going up in bits and pieces, apparently when the contractor has a little spare time. This is a little annoying, but seems to be working ok. We are really pleased with the roof line. Enough hips & valleys to make it interesting, but not too many. This week also saw the windows delivered, ready to be put into place next week. But now for the photos: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Start of roof Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Main bed, kitchen, dining Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Family area along Northern wall Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Windows - amazing how they are all built into the surrounds. These are PGH homestead blend, which is a mixture of 3 different bricks, Cadman, Blackett & endeavour. Went out there through the week to see 1 course laid all the way around the building. We were both very confused as to why this was happened. Our visit on Friday made it all clear. Termi-mesh was being put in place. Really interesting, the laying of the mesh around the whole perimeter, which is then fixed in place against the slab with a type of glue/cement mix. We are both really enjoying seeing each stage happen, even the little bits. Seeing how things are done bit by bit. The plans for this week (so we are now at the start of week 11) is: Finish roofing (Just a little capping to go on) Install eaves Install windows Bricks to start - bricks weren't scheduled to start until next week, but the brickie is keen to start. Apparently it is only 1 brickie, and a labourer, so will take at least 3 weeks. It would be great to see lockup by the end of the month. We are really pleased with the quality of the build. It is a slow & steady rate, but we are happy with this. Much preferred to do it once, do it right. The site is so tidy. Every afternoon, everything is packed away really tidily, and if it is not packed away, it is stacked really tidily around the site. We are really lucky with our builder. Re: Custom Design 5 Acres Northern NSW - Bricks to start (Wk 94Sep 06, 2014 9:03 pm Wow, it's been nearly a month since my last update and so much has happened since then. We gave made what I would call steady progress. They are certainly not breaking any records, but progress is going well. We are very happy with how things are proceeding. Re: Custom Design 5 Acres Northern NSW - Bricks to start (Wk 97Sep 06, 2014 9:24 pm While the bricking has been going on on the outside, a few things have been happening inside. Firstly we had a walk thru with the plumber to discuss where we wanted tap, shower heads, bath taps etc. that was quite easy. Except for the bath. Someone on here had a fixed tap in the bath and it got in the way. We had selected a combined mixer and fixed tap for the bath, but had forgotten what we had chosen. Unfortunately it was too late to change this without a huge hassle. Considering we'd only put the bath in for future sale value, it's not high in the priority list and we can live with it. Then came the electrical. When we did our plans, the builder had drawn a rough electrical plan but had told us we could look at it once the frame was up. Every weekend we would say we needed to go thru the plan and correct it. Nothing like a phone call from the electrician to arrange an appt to go over it to make us do something! This was relatively easy, just time consuming. We went through it on paper first, then up at the house walking thru each room. Thankfully we'd done that as I would gave hated to have to make decisions on the fly with the electrician. A few photos. The week started with the bricks continuing, with steady progress still being made. We had a bit of crappy weather (sleet on both Tuesday and Friday) which slowed them down a little. The bay window in our bedroom gave them a few problems. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Moving along towards the entry. The frame is all there ready for our pivot door. They will also brick 2 pillars in the portico. We are unsure yet what happens above the front door. We assumed it would just be bricked, but the builders offsider suggested they may not be able to brick above the door, that they may not be quite enough support for it or something. We are trying to catch up with the builder to confirm our options. They have also done the fiddly finishing off bit along the back of the house, with the sliding doors, and French doors. Really pleased with the finish. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Meter box, just a little to finish off at the bottom. We also met with the data and cabling guy early in the week. Our builder is not data savvy and this has been left to us to sort out. Which us a little stressful, as it's not something I'm strong on either. Any way we just went simple of TV points, data to each TV point, and foxtel points. This is now all installed, including the TV antenna and ready to go. Thankfully he was able to do it within the week, because........ Plaster sheets were commenced on Thursday!,!!! Apparently there is about a 6 week wait on plaster ATM. Our builder has negotiated that back to about 3 weeks. And he has also got his boys to start fitting the sheets, so the plasterer just needs to do the joins & ceiling once he can get there. This is another milestone moment in the build. Once again really changes the build significantly. It's now starting to look like a house.
