Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 3Jul 01, 2014 5:01 pm Thanks B Star. Did you build with Carlisle? We find it very difficult to communicate changes. We know Brivis has inverter unit and also they ZonePlus to allow us to have more zones. We even rang up the contractor who did air-cond installation for Carlisle and he said that he can do it. We sent all the information to Carlisle before our tender meeting. However came tender and all they can tell us is that NO they can't do it. If we want to get an inverter with more flexible zonings, we have to do it ourself after handover. What blanket did you get? We know the rain noise also condensation that may be an issue so is why we ask Carlisle what can they offer. They only quote me for sarking. I am not sure if they can offer blanket but I think is worth asking. Regards, TOM88 Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 4Jul 02, 2014 9:30 am Hey Tom88, I had built my own house as owner builder. As the time I preferred the the brivis unit it used GAS for heating which is very important in Vic. If i did it again I would certainly aim for a Brivis inverter system. Also there is no reason why you cant have more zones on the system currently on offer. Note even the basic Brivis add on system is going to be miles ahead with what other homes have. I only have a 15kwatt system in my 36sq (28 living) home. On the 40 degree days my family was very comfortable with the temp inside the house. The key to making it work is having a good design and a good install. Many builders and installed often over size the system to overcome bad design and install. This then leads to high power usage. WRT to insulation Blanket it is obviously better but builders only offer you the bottom so they have more room to increase the price and make more money. I would be aiming for foil(sarking) as you will still have insulation in your ceiling cavity. You will get a diminishing return with adding the blanket. Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 5Jul 02, 2014 1:01 pm do your heating/cooling after market. builders margin on the system is rediculous. Just know that you can only go up to a certain size on single phase power (15kw max i think). We are doing after market brivis with 4 zones heating/cooling for approx 7k less than the builder was charging (this includes install). Ill give you the breakdown of why we went external. Size of the cooling addon unit - 12kw Upgrade to a minimum 4 star heater (required for teh cooling addon) - 1000 bucks aditional zones (above the standard 2) - 400 per zone Cost to addon JUST the cooling unit - 14k Upgrade to ducts - didnt even ask....but it want included in the upgrade of teh heate ror the addon. I stoped listening This is what i did - Got a rebate fo rthe original heater - 2k called a cooling company and sent them house plans. priced a 15kw heating/cooling system from brivis with 4 zones all ducting inluded - 11k fully installed this particular builder didnt even take it on that what they were charging was pushin me away. wouldnt negotiate. When i spoke with teh cooling guy they said that most people just get the builder to do it because it all goe sinto the mortgage. People considder it easier to deal with that way if its all under teh single finance contract. Little regard for how much they are actually over paying let alone the interest in that portion of the mortgage. I cant say if carlisle charge these ammounts, but ask them, then call the cooling guys (brivis will provide you tehir authorised installers/resellers info for your area) and see what works out better for you. All in all I can think of many things to spend teh difference on in a new home. Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 8Jul 02, 2014 10:17 pm Thanks guys, All very good information. This is what Carlisle has quoted me on the heating/cooling for just under $14,000. " Provide 17.1 Kw (Nominal cooling capacity), Three phase Brivis add on refrigerated air conditioning to 11 points, including: Larger ducts and duct insulation to suit refrigerated cooling. Upgrade of the heating unit from the 2PW26 to the MX30I-XA(PLUS XA); 2 zone motors and; Networker controller (thermostat) in lieu of programmable controller. Provide three phase underground power with surface mounted three phase switch board located in the garage in lieu of standard single phase power connection and single phase board located in the meter box. Provide three phase 25 AMP isolator to external wall of the WIL external wall for installation of external condenser unit. Provide wall mounted duct to conceal refrigeration pipes, control cable and condensation drain fixed to the external wall. Zone 1 = Master Suite and minor Bedrooms. Zone 2 = All remaining points. Maximum of 1 Zone at a time can be operated with refrigerated cooling, both zones may be operated with heating. " I have also gone external to obtain a quote on a Daikin FDYQ160 Inverter Ducted Split System. Ducted to 12 points, 2 zone and 2 controllers for $12,500. To me Daikin Inverter should be a better choice that Brivis add-on, both are similar price in the end. The only difference is that we are going to have more outlets on the ceilings. Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 9Jul 02, 2014 10:58 pm A 17kw three phase power system that only cools one zoneat a time (not even big zones) Lol. I dont know why they only program it to cool one zone at a time. I think they are scared their design will not work. TOM88 Is the Daiken unit just for cooling or heating also? Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 14Jul 03, 2014 10:04 pm In that case I would be considering a GAS heating system. You should always be demnsioning for the system you are going to use the most. GAS is cheaper to run. This is why I went for the brivisi system. Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 16Jul 12, 2014 10:22 pm Hello All, Firstly I'm building the Claremont 35 and I'm wanting to install ducted refrigerated cooling/heating through another company. Carlisle are not allowing any other contractors onsite during the build so I have to do this after handover. I want to know is this possible to do especially on the first floor? I'm wanting to install multiple zones 6 or more. Carlisle have said they can install provisions for this, but I'm not sure what they mean by provision, does this mean they will install the ducts, vents and electrical work? and I install the unit I want? You cold get them to do ducts, but given you're already doing the install after handover, it would be cheaper if you dont have them install the ducts. Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 18Aug 02, 2014 4:48 pm I spoke to a Brivis installer for a refrigerated air con quote. He said he could do installation for approximately 11k, as long as we got the ducts air con ready. carlisle are quoting us over 16k. So we asked carlisle to quote us for getting place air con ready and we were quoted nearly 7k so it would be more expensive to do it after!!! They certainly know what they are doing with regards to stopping people from doing the cheaper option afterwards!!! Re: Carlisle Home - Brivis add on refrigerated air condition 19Aug 02, 2014 10:12 pm Just get the after market guy to do your ducts too.
