Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 122Jun 26, 2014 2:18 am Thanks everyone for ur well wishes. Much appreciated. DH heard from SS today and 60% of work done. Feels we could have handover on 7 th July. This suits me fine as I should be better then. Also fits in well with DH work - he goes every fortnight to look after the mental health of the folk in Onslow. Well we will certainly be doing the moving slowly. Have few things big items like camper trailer, trailer and windrush surf cat to bring down. Thankful the bigger yacht will be hopefully sold here. We have a lot of stuff stored in Perth - fingers crossed that it is ok. Only suppose to be away for two years not ten. Still do not think it has fully sunk in yet. We love it. Spent two weeks down south selecting tiles, carpets and blinds and getting quotes for retaining walls, fencing and connection of our soakwells. Oh the money is just flowing out of our account. will be bread and water and sitting on the floor from now on. DH has done a fabulous job sealing all the walls. Hope next week to start painting areas that are to be carpeted - yes doing that long trek down from Exmouth again. We were only having carpet in the loft, then added carpet for the stairs as tiles or bamboo would be too slippery for our dog. The tiles that we are having laid are of course more expensive for the whole area and we would have to get rugs to for bedrooms too, so yes you guessed it we are now having carpet in bedrooms -much to my husbands delight. Hope I have made the right decision. I did really love the tiles though. The carpets we have are so so soft. They are called Soft -E . It is made from 100% recycled PET bottles and the backing is made from recycled plastic from computer mice and casing. The underlay is fabulous too. Now comes the very disappointing part Well work still to be done on our house and was suppose to be done during the two weeks we were there, but informed today it is still outstanding. Laundry drain NOT connected to main sewerage just left to drain into yard. Obviously RI thought that was perfectly acceptable as they did not inform us that this was happening. One of the tradies giving us a quote pointed it out to us after handover. We paid for a diverter to be installed so we could at a later stage put in a grey water system. Was told near completion of build that plumber stated it could not be done -it was either grey water or black water system no switching. So we were going to get refund. This was after we inquired about what was being done re diverter prior to practical completion. RI did not find it strange that the plumber was not going to connect drain to sewer or that we were not informed . IMHO, basically they had been paid so they could not be bothered, unless we paid for half of the work. I found on a WA Govt website, grey water regulations that state you have to have the option of swapping between grey water and sewer system as in winter heavy rains make it unpractical to use grey water and could case flooding, also in case of possible contamination grey water can not be released .Only when I showed them this did RI agreed to connect it at no cost to us however we do not get refund though for diverter -$400. Still waiting for it to be connection. Hope it will be done before we leave Exmouth. Render at back is still not completed in parts and maintenance person who came to patch it up stated that the area was getting wet from incorrect drainage from balcony and therefore not worth doing till fixed. RI manager to come and inspect. Ducted AirCon not working fully. I have dealt with getting aircon guys to come and rectify. Instead of clearing the building rubble from our site RI have just buried it under a layer of sand. Not just the small bits of rubble you find, but huge pieces everywhere. Told in sms today that RI will not be doing anything about this. I am not impressed at all. I'm so happy for you that you finally have the house, but so disappointed to hear of all the ongoing issues w Redink. Can't believe they couldn't get the greywater stuff right and burying rubbish is just awful. I really hope they get their act together and solve all of your issues. Can you fight them on the rubbish issue? Any recourse? Good luck and yes, pictures!!!! Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 126Jul 30, 2014 8:05 pm Thanks AKB and Ardie. Yes it puts a dampener on things. Little stuff you do not mind it will get fixed. I expected to find a bit of rubble on property which there is. Got even old carpet from somewhere but the buried rubble is very underhand. Free flowing drains is a health issue to. My DH will certainly not leave the rubble is alone. I will leave him to do the talking. More diplomatiic. Me I blow a fuse if I think someone is just sprouting rubbish. Will certainly put some photos up. Due to ill health have been recovering in between trips so not much getting done inbetween. In our new place have no fences yet so get to see the lovely free range chooks roaming at the bottom of the garden. Need fence though fairly transparent one so we can see the bush and tree at the back but keep the dog in. Not sure what he will think of the chooks. May surprise me. All the birds wander very close to him as use to him and the fact he does not give them any attention. Now if they looked like a ball that would be a different Building in Myalup with Redink PCQ : Nov 2012 Prestart: 17 th March 2013 Builders Permit: Sept 2013 Completed build Aug 2014 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67559 Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 127Jul 31, 2014 9:33 pm Hi Jibs congratulations on handover!!! Hope all the issues get sorted to your satisfaction. I thought all builders had to do a final site clean?? Agree with you on the drain, you have a case there I should think. Anyway so happy that you love your house and yes the money does just disappear doesn't it? But in a worthwhile cause!! Waiting on some finished photos too.... Re: Building with Redink South West in Myalup 128Aug 07, 2014 11:05 pm Hi TC thanks. Hope ur lovey new home is going well. Soon as I get access to big computer will put some photos on photobucket, which does not seem to work on iPad. Tiling will commence on Monday whilst we are away, will return to see the results a week later. Soon fencing and limestone retaining walls will commence and then the carpets laid and then hopefully a wood heater. Slowly getting there. Been busy painting today, the job seems endless. Hope to move in early Sept. Met today with SS ( who is lovely) and the manager to sort out rubble problem. Seems like we may get it sorted but manager never quite commits or just tells you some rubbish just to keep you quiet. Noticed my shower not draining properly so mentioned this. Stating that in the previous two weeks it had worked perfectly but on this visit not. Was told oh that is normal. Turned on shower to run for three mins my usual time in shower. Was told to turn it off after just over min and half. Did not and yes it started to flood my Ensuite. So they are fixing it. Yes one down five to go.
