Re: New house build - networking and AV wiring 12Jun 25, 2014 6:31 pm wifi How do I achieve a strong wifi signal throughout the house ? Got any old wireless routers/modems sitting around the house? You can make them into Wifi Extenders for better coverage around the house Re: New house build - networking and AV wiring 13Jun 28, 2014 11:46 am Quote: Data Cabling Basically, need one ethernet point in each room, EXCEPT for Family room and Study, which will have multiple devices. My understanding so far is: Hills Home Hub (or similar) will be installed in Garage. NBN modem will go in the hub (I am building in The Ponds 2769). From the modem, ethernet cables will go to each room with one outlet in each room. And multiple outlets in Study & Family room. Cat 5/6 is also called Magic cable. You can transmit Phone, Audio, power , ethernet, IR over this cable . So the more the merrier. A new standard called (HDBaseT) will allow you to transmit HD Video over one cat5. Suggest you run 4 cat5/6 to your living area and 2 to all other areas and terminate all cables to one central area/Hub. Make sure your NBN Internet cable also lands here. Some people were having issues with NBN/iPrimus as they (or the 3rd party) were installing the modem & terminating the structured cabling inside the FTTH Cabinet. The issue is you may not have access to the FTTH Cabinet at all. Check if it's applicable to you. if yes the simple solution is to ensure that the structured cabling does not terminate in the FTTH Cabinet http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1916518 Quote: Audio - I also have a marantz SR5006 AVR which is a 2-zone AVR. Good idea to put the second zone in Alfresco ? - Will the Audio cabling have anything to do with the Home Hub ? Unfortunately, most Zone 2 are analog only !! This means you can't play music coming out of HDMI or Optical on Zone 2. check specs of your AVR. If Zone 2 is Analog it's useless. You can use Speaker B instead. Re: New house build - networking and AV wiring 14Jul 01, 2014 4:16 pm Hi all, been told it will cost extra $$$ to terminate the data cables under the staircase. so they must be done to the wall inside of the garage near the NBN. so patching to the wall 14 data points in the wall. (prefer not to use hills hub or clipsal starserve) Thinking of buying 6 RU cabinet and getting a 16 port switch with ADSL modem. (zero chance of NBN in the near future). for wifi can i run 2 netgear routers in bridge mode upstairs/downstairs (upstairs lounge room/study) to give good wifi coverage and turn off the wifi on the ADSL modem in the garage? or any other ideas, appointment in 2 weeks for electricals so need to decide one way or another TIA ugly99 Re: New house build - networking and AV wiring 15Jul 01, 2014 10:15 pm Yes you can run connect wireless routers to your data points upstairs and downstairs and use them as access points for your wireless devices.
