Can anyone point me in the right direction of who can help with an estimate? I am in NSW I'm in the process of building on a battle axe block (70m driveway so quite a bit). I'm finding costs for all services except for one are quite reasonable - IF you have your builder bring them to the start of the driveway and then do the connections with utilities there. Do not under any circumstances have the utilities draw up their service all the way to your house. I mentioned except one; the exception is cable (for Internet & TV) which looks like it will cost me an arm and a leg - not sure exactly how much yet, but $ thousands. Edit: Just got the quote for the cable work and indeed, it's so expensive I'm going to give it a pass for now. The problem is that while there is cable on the street, it's across the road so they'd have to do a "network extension" and the total distance would be well over 100m to the house from the pole. Anyhow.. $7,000. Ouch. Not going to do that for now. Re: Cost of services up driveway - Battle Axe Block 6Nov 11, 2014 10:00 am HI, It has been a while since I was in this boat - and when I was the services were regulated so AGL had sole right to supply me gas etc and they ran the services for me free of charge (40m drive). In regards power, water and sewer, we had an issue with access - the driveway was already down and the required distance from the boundary was an issue in the remaining narrow corridor so we actually trimmed the edge off (a wider than average drive) and got our own machinery in to trench and run the balance of the services. Fortunately husband is in the electrical game. The biggest issue for us over this distance was fall for the sewer, was a question as to whether we would need a pump or not, and fortunately the answer was not. But again the sewercock was in the middle of the drive, so again we cut out a section and replaced with lovely pavers to make a real feature. Get some quotes from your own providers and compare to the builder, informed is the best way to make your decisions. The builders response to all of this was "we're going to rip your driveway up and you need to pay us to do this and pay to replace it" (on an answering machine message on a Friday afternoon, back in 1997 when you left messages!!). When they turned up to do so it was all taken care of. Enjoy the battle axe, it feels like your own little world, love living like that.
