We are very excited I start the build Follow our blog, its a work in progress but hopefully shares our adventure https://granddesignskillarney.wordpress.com/ Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 4Jun 01, 2014 7:28 pm We have also decided to build the Chifley 42. We are going to convert BR5 to the main bathroom, and will knock out the walls currently surrounding the separate toilet and existing bathroom, to make it another open area for the office/ computer. Also toying with the idea of a butler pantry but not willing to give up any of the servery or kitchen floor space! The only thing this house is missing for me is the sunken cinema room many of the wisdom homes have but not sure how to include it. I think it would look odd transforming that front room into a dark cinema room. We decided to extend the floor space out on kitchen/family room at an extra cost of about $9k to create enough room for the butlers pantry. Agree with you on the cinema room, we have requested some strong cavity slider doors on that room so it can be closed off and made into a darker room or left open Follow our blog, its a work in progress but hopefully shares our adventure https://granddesignskillarney.wordpress.com/ Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 6Jun 01, 2014 8:03 pm We were thinking slider doors too on the cinema room. We also got a floor plan for a WIP with other kitchen mods.. 7k but this was not inclusive of a sink in the pantry. The doors would be on the far left of the servers, running down the house along where the current BBQ is on the Gleadwood shills display home, and the alfresco is moved to the right. That mod also took the cooktop off the bench, and put over where the ovens are currently. My husband isn't sure about the range hood... He is 6ft + where as I'm only 5ft5 so hoping they can raise that slightly. Where are you putting the butler panty? Will definitely be a stunner with an even bigger lounge and kitchen! What colour scheme are you thinking? I quite liked the ambiance of the darker decor in the Balmoral but not sure how that would come up in the Chifley. In the end we went with the seaview 39. Love your ideas about converting the bedroom 5 to main bathroom so that you will have a study/office. Only other thing I could think of is if you could widen the house plan, then shift the garage out to make room for a long cupboard. Very handy for shoes, umbrellas, hats, bags and coats, all within reach of the entrance. Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 8Jun 03, 2014 9:32 pm Welcome to the Chifley club! There is a Chifley thread somewhere. We are currently under construction of the Chifley 42. Our plan modifications were a fair few: - Extended the laundry, powder room, and main bathroom upstairs out. We didn't increase the size of the powder, just the hallway outside of it, making it into a bit of a mud room. - Combined the main bathroom upstairs so there wasn't a separate toilet. It was a bit small, so the combining and the extra space did it some good. Rearranged everything inside it to suit. - The three rooms down the side downstairs were made into 2 large rooms - Theatre + Dining room. Stole some room out of this arrangement to make a large butlers pantry in the kitchen - this way we didn't lose space out of the kitchen which isn't huge. We have a big extended family so need an oversized dining room. - Changed the kitchen to be a u-shape. I hate island benches (personal preference). - Removed ensuite out of bedroom 2. Used this space to create a study nook in bed 3 and also increased the size of the walk in linen. This means now we don't have a WIR in one of these rooms, just regular 3 door wardrobes. - Increased the size of the walk in robe in master suite. Stole space out of the main bedroom to do this. Changed the config so you only had 1 entrance to the WIR. Had to fit a king sized bed against that wall and there wasn't enough room with the 2 entrances. - Added a door to the ensuite and closed it in. Added a bath and reduced size of the vanity and shower (converted to single shower to fit in the bath) - Increased depth and width of garage (extending forwards and sideways) as much as we could remaining in council rules. It's close to 6x6 now. - Added a linen press downstairs by stealing space out of the under stairs area (so door to linen is in foyer area) - Flat roof on alfresco to allow larger windows in back bedrooms. Lots of other small stuff. It's a lovely house design and we're pretty excited to see it come up in real life. Put some really large windows out the back which you can't do with other designs / sizes as the roof line comes up too high. Hope this helps you for ideas. Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 9Jun 08, 2014 8:39 pm Mrs Brown Bear - Increased depth and width of garage (extending forwards and sideways) as much as we could remaining in council rules. It's close to 6x6 now. I wish we had the space to do this, we only extended a section of the garage for a work bench. Nothing beats a spacious garage! Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 10Jun 16, 2014 4:15 pm Exciting We are working on the Chifley plan at the moment and have made a fair few changes as well - Included a Master Bedroom downstairs with Ensuite and WIR - Extended Meals area to fit a large dining table - Converted a bedroom upstairs into study/ activity zone for the boys - Added a third Garage - Added a Butler's pantry Finalising the Facade at the moment We love the Vogue Facade . Good Luck Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 11Jun 28, 2014 9:45 am Thanks all. Just received our plans via email/post yesterday. Time to review and make a few of these suggested changes. In addition to the ones we already included we love the idea of taking out the door to the seperate toilet and joining with the main bathroom to make it larger. We are also thinking if putting a feature window in our butlers pantry to overlook a pool we are going to put in Follow our blog, its a work in progress but hopefully shares our adventure https://granddesignskillarney.wordpress.com/ Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 12Nov 17, 2014 12:23 pm Hi all, Quick update, we have our final compliance plans now and received unconditional finance approval from the bank. Rawson is taking care of the demolition for us and hopefully we will start building late this month. I also received an updated progress payment schedule from rawson with all of our variations included. Quick question - is the slab progress payment due before the slab is poured or after? We are making the first payment out of our savings and just working on our christmas budget! It's interesting to compare the progress of the build. No payment requested from Rawson yet. Re: Building the Chifley 42 with raw son homes - modificatio 16Nov 18, 2014 6:33 am Ok great. Are you also building the chifley? Is the bank ok with you knocking down the existing house prior to unconditional approval?
