I joined Homeone a few weeks ago, just surfed in on Google searching on some unusual topic that took my interest.
So here’s me…
Starting my career in photography, I used to be the archaelogical photographer for a major university, then lost interest as it was my career and my hobby – now digital, photography remains my hobby. I moved into industrial engineering and later became a business consultant with one of the big 6 accounting firms. Then I moved into general management and latterly MD of what became the largest single site window manufacturer in the Southern hemisphere. The business grew to be the benchmark in the industry. Our directions differed so I moved on and ploughed myself into my software business for a year; I am 50% owner and CEO. This business operated by a team of 20 from a base in Melbourne supplies the world’s best web based patented systems to one of the top 10 companies in the Fortune 500. And I am proud to say the majority of the programmers and project leaders are retrained from other industries.
About 18 months ago a large and respected business approached me to start a window business and EcoClassic was born. I own a minor share in this business and I am an executive director. EcoClassic designs, imports and manufactures windows in uPVC, aluminium and thermally broken aluminium. The plan for EcoClassic is to deliver the very best in energy efficient windows and doors and in doing so to break all price barriers. They supply tested and guaranteed double glazed windows: - in uPVC at about 75% discount, in aluminium at about 30% discount and in thermally broken aluminium at about 80% discount – all compared to local market prices. They do this by setting a quality standard and having all the labour intensive, value added done overseas. But quality is the key and guiding principle, example – silicon glazing – used in commercial windows here but too costly for domestic windows… a standard in the EcoClassic aluminium double glazed window. If you want to see some real feedback – read the eBay feedback for “justdoubleglazed” where EcoClassic clears odd stock or takes orders to fill containers.
I live in Emerald Victoria where I play with tractors, digital cameras (& Photoshop) and my son. I have 5 children ranging in age from 6yrs to 35 yrs., and 5 grand children from 2 yrs to 10 yrs. I also websurf a lot and read some. We have 3 dogs and 3 cats, 3 cows, 5 horses and a cockatiel.
I am fascinated by things like heat pipes (brilliant – why aren’t they exploited more, is it because they are not patentable?), Low-E glass – apparently to get the best from Low-E glass you should be able to swivel the window so that the surface on which Low-E is coated can be 2 or 3 (from the outside) then you get the best of summer and winter energy efficiency.
I also love China, the Chinese culture and the Chinese people, a nation that will set the benchmark for quality and design in the very near future.
Oh, and I have single glazed Boral aluminium windows in my home (I had a life before windows). One day they will be PVC in a beautiful timber grain.
And as my signature says – I try to be impartial, but I fail. So watch out!
Thanks
Ed
PS. I usually keep a low profile but the stakes were raised recently...
