I have also bought a replacement as can be seen in the 2nd picture however I can't seem to remove the original busted fitting. It has screw threading so I wrongly thought I could just unscrew it, but it won't budge in any direction. How do I get this thing out? Do I need to remove the entire base plate surrounding it? I'm reluctant to do that as this is a rental property. If I do have to do that, I also need some assistance with that chestnut too as the little caps seen in the picture which i assume are covering screws do not simply peel off with fingers. Do I have to destroy them in order to get to the screws? What I'm most concerned about it what's going to come out if I remove the entire fitting base plate and all. Am I going to be confronted with a big jumble of wires requiring me to re-wire stuff? I'm not confident to do that. I really don't want to have to call someone in just to deal with a lightbulb replacement so any help is appreciated. Re: How do I remove and a crumbled plastic bayonet light fit 2May 08, 2014 9:02 am If you are unsure call a sparky or your landlord. I've replaced several over the years and once a part of the fitting goes usually the whole thing needs replacing - meaning removing the existing and wiring up a new one. The heat of the old tungsten globes is what gradually breaks down the plastic. If you were a licensed electrician, this is what you would do ![]() 1. Turn off light circuit at switchboard. Switch on light to make sure it doesnt come on. 2. Prise the little caps off by digging a sharp little knife under their lips, then you can re use them. 3. Screw out fixture. 4. Draw a diagram of what wire goes where (ok a leccy wouldnt do that) ![]() 5. Replace with new bayonet. 6. Switch on circuit and test. Alternatively, call a leccy, and pay $100. Simply ring the agent and tell them the problem, they have to fix it.
