Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 04, 2012 8:27 am Hi All Im having a house built and would like to know if handrail are a requirement and what are the regulations. The builder at the moment has put hand rails only half way up the stairs and im not liking it as it is not safe. Just want to gather as much information before I hit him with the legal requirements. Any help would be much appreciated. Re: Hand Rail Regulations with stairs - Need Help 2Oct 07, 2012 10:18 am understand your views but legislation did not provide for handrail for domestic buildings. changing now but in your case, i dont think the builder has to put handrails Re: Hand Rail Regulations with stairs - Need Help 3Oct 07, 2012 6:59 pm Anything over 1 meter requires hand rails. heres some info - http://www.stairking.com.au/files/edito ... The display home only has a single handrail above the balustrades but in my build, they have added a second handrail along the wall. I would really like to remove it but the SS stated it was a requirement. Just wanted to make sure what he said is correct (and not being lazy to remove it).
