Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a house first time annual costs involved 2Mar 11, 2014 2:21 pm We're not in our house yet, but your rates will go up once a house is built, H&C insurance will vary depending on the area you're building in, Water rates are in addition to the usage bill that you would be paying now - its for sewage/service to property etc too I believe. I'm not sure about now, but Telstra used to charge $60 for a phone connection, but about $280 or something for a phone connection in a new property so i ts likely there will be some costs above and beyond the standard when connecting services. good luck! It all adds up doesn't it! Re: Building a house first time annual costs involved 3Mar 12, 2014 6:57 pm mpp Hi All, Looking for some advice we are first time home builders. As we have never owned a home we are not aware of all the other annual costs involved in owning a home.We currently rent and have bought a land and planning to build by the end of the year. Before we commit to the build just trying to figure out what all other annual expenses we may have . Here are few things which I know anything I missed out please feel free to add 1. Home and content insurance- $1000-1200 pa 2.Council rates- we paid $850 this year for the land we own will this remain the same once we build the house? 3. Water rates not sure what this is. Currently we are paying the water bill in our rental place is this the same as water rates or is it in addition to quarterly water bill. $$$? 4.Utilities connection including internet- we will be transferring our existing connections. Is there a different connection price involved for connecting the services to the new house 5. Monthly gas/electricity bills- We are paying this in rental accommodation may be a little higher when we move to a bigger house 5.Landscaping other maintenance -$100-200 pm Is there anything which we have missed out or any other $$ figures which may be inaccurate. That covers most of your costs - there are phone connection fees for new houses but a lot of providers will waive them if you contract for two years. The only thing I'd add is budgeting for repairs/maintenance/landscaping/gardening/general household stuff like replacing white goods. It isn't an exact figure but assuming that things might need to get fixed is probably worthwhile, or even all the additional little things. Yes we will be budgeting some extra money for buying furniture & white goods. Glad to know we have accounted for most of the other annual expenses. We will be doing landscaping after handover on our own , hope to save some money doing this. Re: Building a house first time annual costs involved 5Mar 13, 2014 1:31 pm who are you thinking of building with, and where is the land, and is it rural or in a developed area? Re: Building a house first time annual costs involved 6Mar 13, 2014 1:33 pm Water rates are service charges, to give you an idea my vacant block is $72 every 2 months. When you are built/during your build you will also be using consumption so will have these costs ontop of your service charges. Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Building a house first time annual costs involved 7Mar 15, 2014 12:23 am Pretty thorough list. Only thing i can think to add would be pest/termite inspection. Not sure what which state you in, but in WA most builders tie their structural timber warranty to annual termite inspections and periodical treatments. Maybe also allow a $500 slush fund for repairs/maintenance - things like replacing sprinklers, patching/painting cracking, replacing plants that *cough* committed suicide lol Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 9702 Sadly no movement on site since soak wells went in. There are also missing/wrong storm water drains which need to be sorted, along with a broken pipe.
