Just Pm'd you Re: Porcelain Tiles & Good Tiler - Perth 47Feb 09, 2014 10:53 am It's amazing how the tiles change colours in different light.. We have the same tile throughout but even in one room it can look 3 different colours. We knew this before we installed the tiles as it was evident in a display we saw at tiles 88 in Osborne Park the floor looks like a completely different tile to the walls. It adds character to the tiles and makes it not boring to have the same tile throughout the house. I originally wanted a dark floor in the wet areas but when I saw the display at Tiles 88 I knew that these would work perfectly with our cupboards and colour scheme. We didn't want the tiles to look brown or grey but somewhere in between. We intentionally didn't go for a brown colour scheme or grey colour scheme we have gone for a mixture of both. With our cupboards being brown/grey wood grain look and our roller blinds are a dark grey with a hint of brown. The tiles throw of a bit of brown tone in some light (especially on the walls and spa) but have more of a grey toning in full sun if you can see past the reflection... I'm so in love with my tiling lol Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 Porcelain Tiles & Good Tiler - Perth 49Feb 09, 2014 2:43 pm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Laminex to wet areas Absolute Stone to kitchen and scullery Colour - Absolute Polar Finish- Absolute quartz And can't forget the red splashback to kitchen and scullery Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 Re: Porcelain Tiles & Good Tiler - Perth 51Feb 09, 2014 4:18 pm Hi everyone, The only way that you will find a tiler is to do some leg work. Look at the tilers previous work, I am not talking about photos, actually go and physically see his/her workmanship and speak to the owner directly about the character of the tiler. I went through 6 tilers until I found the right one at the right price. I was never going to pay someone more than $45/m2 to lay my tiles, my budget didn't allow it. As long as you are happy with the workmanship then that is all that matters, it's your home at the end of the day and haggle with the tiler about the price, too often we pay what they want.I was not going to pay what he wanted, why should I! You shouldn't have too either. Re: Porcelain Tiles & Good Tiler - Perth 53Feb 09, 2014 5:24 pm No I ended up getting him down to $34/m2, he originally wanted $48/m2, then $40, $38. He was clearly frustrated and perhaps annoyed, but who cares! I saved nearly 2grand, better in my pocket that his. He still made a decent wack don't get me wrong, but I was determined to save as much money as a I could. There was no screeding in my home, he showed me his work he had completed in Morley and I was impressed. I said to him if you can do that without screeding in my home i will be more than happy. Again it is what you are happy with at the end of the day and what you are prepared to pay, but do your homework it's your house! You can't take a risk with the tiling side of your home, all your reli's, friends & visitors will see the tiling in your home, if it's no good how on earth are you going to hide it from them. Dion have your tiles been laid yet? Are you happy with the job your tiler did in your house? We just went with the tilers recommendation to screed the floors with the 600x600 tiles ours looks awesome would it of still been awesome without screeding the floors?? No idea I guess we will never know lol We weren't prepared to take the risk and so we paid the extra for the screeding?? I guess it comes down to affordability and how fussy you are.. We are very fussy and so we wanted it perfect... But perfect comes at a price I guess!!!! It's much easier to get a perfectly level floor with screed. Screed will also give you added buffer against cracking. If your slab cracks then the screed will take up some movement and the glue will take the rest. If you can afford it screed is a must. Re: Porcelain Tiles & Good Tiler - Perth 57Feb 09, 2014 7:16 pm Crazyk Oh I might also add at his rate he certainly wasn't looking to rip you off. Lol it's okay I never thought he was trying to rip me off I love love love my tiling and we are do glad we paid for the screeding it was never an option for us not to screed just curious if someone who didn't screed wished they had or is happy with the finish... From what you are saying you are extremely happy, and to me that is what really counts. When you can walk into your new home and see the quality and not just the tiling aspect and the sight makes you smile then that makes it worthwhile. I was very limited money wise with what I could do with the tiling of my house, so I had to be ruthless in purchasing everything from products to services to finish my house. The tiler was going to charge me $22/m2 to screed the floor so I would have coughed up $56/m2, not far from your $65/m2 plus your tiler did the wet areas as well where mine didn't and I know it would be more expensive to lay the tiles in there. So no you were not ripped by any means and looking at your photos they did a fantastic job, so well done! Re: Porcelain Tiles & Good Tiler - Perth 60Feb 09, 2014 11:08 pm Crazyk All I can say is you guys are getting great rates. I agree with what you say too dion Maybe we should ship some of our tilers over to Melbourne for you lol Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design. Also are you… 6 7057 9 24826 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7316 |
