Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement Re: En-suite/ Second Bathroom Configuration 5Jan 30, 2014 3:17 pm Questions: 1. Do you need two doors into the ensuite - they take up valuable room - if it is to be the main bedroom; 2. Can toilet slide in beside shower - against bedroom wall - shower would open towards sink; 3. Would a sliding (internal) door work - again saving much room where door swings; 4. I believe that a main ensuite should be as big as possible. Re: En-suite/ Second Bathroom Configuration 7Jan 30, 2014 4:20 pm That's right ugbug, for the first 7-10 years we will use the new room for my husband's office (he works from home) and for all his nerd entertaining (he's a gamer). Once the babies are older we will use that room as a master, but until that time we need access to the toilet/bathroom without going through the office. The toilet swung around like you've got would fix the view problem, but do you think it would be too cramped? Any idea how much space you would ideally want around a toilet? I suppose the door would always be closed when in use lol Saint Mike, ensuites in our suburb tend to be small and functional (first home buyer type suburb), so we feel 3mx1.5m would be adequate. A sliding door would be great, but I think I read somewhere on this forum that sliding doors werent allowed to wet areas anymore...? Oh and here are my other plans for interest: Current House: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ After extension and renovations (though open plan area might have to wait a few years after): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: En-suite/ Second Bathroom Configuration 8Jan 30, 2014 4:39 pm I think ugbug's layout would work well. I don't like the door swinging right towards the toilet in the original. If you can't have a sliding door you could have one of those concertina type things that are two narrow panels hinged in the middle - must be a name for it but can't think right now! Folding door maybe?! Re: En-suite/ Second Bathroom Configuration 10Jan 31, 2014 1:14 am I'd still remove the hallway door, surely if you need to use the bathroom you can walk two extra steps through nerd room? Or use old bathroom. Then you can finish off the second bathroom/proposed ensuite as it will be and no need to block up the hallway door down the track when you make the office the master bedroom. We have a sliding door into our ensuite, and the house is currently being built, so all good in Victoria at least. My husband works from home on the phone constantly so we wouldnt be able to go through that room for access during work hours, but I suppose its not the end of the world if the bathroom doesnt much use. We werent planning on blocking up the door when we used the room as a master though because we envisioned it used like a powder room guests could use instead of the kids bathroom/toilet (figured ours would be a lot cleaner than theirs!). ugbug We have a sliding door into our ensuite, and the house is currently being built, so all good in Victoria at least. I'm in WA but maybe its only some states So if we lose the second door, it would probably look like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: En-suite/ Second Bathroom Configuration 14Jan 31, 2014 6:55 pm Much better Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: En-suite/ Second Bathroom Configuration 15Feb 01, 2014 9:33 am I think that looks much better - especially the shower.
