Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 19, 2013 3:15 pm I was about to put a new light into our bedroom and in the process checked which of the two wires was the 'active' one. While doing this I noticed that the active is actually not being switched at the light switch at all, the 'active' pin at the light bulb is always active. So I assume that the 'neutral' is being switched as the light can be switched on and off ok. Is this usual? Coming from Europe I'm surprised to find a switch which does not switch the 'active' wire for a light. Is this in line with Australian regulations, or WA regulations (whichever applies) as we're in Perth? Appreciate any help as we've just reached the 6 month warranty point and I'd like to raise this if it's not right. Cheers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Building with Redink in Madeley WA Photos: http://s1244.photobucket.com/user/takat ... yHouse2012 Moved in 01/06/2013 Next project: Lanscaping Re: Light socket is always 'active', won't switch off 2Dec 19, 2013 3:31 pm Raise everything - and put it in writing. Regardless. Re: Light socket is always 'active', won't switch off 3Dec 20, 2013 9:35 am Are you an licenced electrician? If not be aware that you're breaking the law and voiding your warranty and your insurance if you're doing electrical work. If you're just changing a globe then please ignore above and do like Mike says. Re: Light socket is always 'active', won't switch off 4Dec 21, 2013 6:19 am Sounds like incorrect wiring as the active should return to the switch before going to the socket - and as you say, your wall switch will still operate, but it will leave a dangerous situation at the socket (take care when changing light globes and don't use a metal stepladder) ... in Europe I did all my own wiring and the authorities checked it, and connected if it was to standard. Similar for plumbing, here we need a licence. Sounds like we should all have our light sockets checked!
