Some days I have 2-3 trades Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Scheduling? 462Dec 20, 2013 11:00 am Paint the skirting boards yourselves in 1 day LeanneR!!! What am I doing wrong??? Tell me your secrets!!! My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64437 Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Scheduling? 463Dec 20, 2013 11:48 am Haha actually would prob take few days. I was thinking to when we stained our old ones but that didn't need multiple coats Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Tiling done 464Dec 20, 2013 2:15 pm Our tiling is done and we're really happy with it all. Very happy with our tile selections and very, very happy with the quality of the workmanship (from what we've seen). Once again, please excuse the quality of the images. I'm really looking forward to some of our windows getting a decent clean! Sexy, sexy rectified tile splashback in the kitchen. Sexy, sexy caesarstone bench with waterfall edges. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/caesarstone2_zpsdd41e96f.jpg Laundry wall tiles. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/caesarstone3_zps00d21731.jpg Laundry floor tiles. Our ensuite. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/caesarstone7_zps147bfec6.jpg And our grano which I forgot to photograph last time! So from what I can see we only need some taps, some faucets and a bit of caulking and the wet areas will be done. The painter is due to finish the doors over the break so final plumbing, final electrical (oven, downlights, wall sockets) and the air conditioning are the only major things we need to do now. The rest is fixing up the little mistakes/big accident. There's the external painting to do as well, but that's dependent on the repairs getting done. If all the trades are back by the 13th of Jan, DAH will have exactly four weeks until handover! I'm glad there are so many fences going up now. The neighbours must think I'm mad. I don't really have the body shape for graceful contortion but I'm glad you appreciate it bradster! +Tbrown2012 Looking very sexy indeed !!!! Did your stone bench tops have joins anywhere? So close now..... We went through a fair bit of drama just after pre start as I had one rule - no seams! Because there are only two benches, and the kitchen is really a feature of the the living area, the OCD wench in me got very particular. The end result was that our benches couldn't be more than 2.9m (the max length for a single piece of caesarstone) and we had to ditch the bin drawer in the island. Instead we have a cupboard with a moveable shelf that is "whatever size it needs to be to ensure we don't have a seam in the caesarstone." It looks relatively skinny but I think we'll keep vases or glasses in there. And we'll try to organise our bins for under the sink. That's the plan anyway. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Paint colou 473Dec 24, 2013 2:46 pm Exterior painting has commenced! The painter had to paint up to the garage and then stop because, lo and behold, the damage wasn't repaired in time for Christmas. *gasp!* I guess he'll be coming back again at some stage - along with the bricky, the renderer and the ceiling carpenter. The lack of logic in this process fries my brain at times but I need to learn to let it go. It will be done… it will be done… it will be done… In the meantime we're loving our exterior colour choices. Solver's Vitesse and Lundy Grey were absolutely the right choices for us. Very, very happy. The photo isn't awesome because it's from the iPhone, but you get the idea. I'm looking forward to the cross bar and finial being painted and attached to the portico. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/paintcolours2_zpsed446696.jpg We've also made some inroads with our interior colour choices too. I've been painting boards like it's nobody's business and we finally nailed it down to our favourite selections. Only one final hurdle to overcome. Once again, this is an iPhone pic so the colours aren't 100% spot on. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/paintcolours_zps79c52da2.jpg At far left is Dulux White On White. This matches well with the Laminex Polar White. This will be used in the front entry hallway, the theatre room (my studio), the hallway to the minor bedrooms and the bathroom, toilet and laundry. Boring, I know, but we will have art works and plenty of wall mounted shelving etc. to break up a lot of the whiteness. And regardless, I love me some white! At far right is Dulux Harpoon which will be the main feature wall colour in the OH's office. In the middle is the big question: At top is Dulux White Duck Half, at bottom is Dulux White Duck Quarter. We are going to use one of these colours for our main living/dining/kitchen area to contrast with the all-white kitchen. Standing against the boards are samples of the charcoal floor tiles we used in our wet areas, the Caesarstone bench top that will feature in the kitchen and the white gloss tile we have as a splash back. We've also placed everything against our friends' Jarrah floorboards so we can get idea of whether or not it all fits in with the flooring we'll have. I think it all looks great together. I'm currently leaning towards White Duck Half as it's more of a greige (not quite grey, not quite beige) which is what we were initially looking for. White Duck Quarter is lovely but I've noticed it has a tendency to throw a little pink at times, even in our apartment which has beech coloured flooring. White Duck half also matches really well with the Laminex Platinum Micro we've used in the benchtops throughout the house so there's a level of consistency there too. My sister prefers the White Duck Quarter because it matches the Caesarstone. My OH prefers White Duck Half because it doesn't match the Caesarstone! He doesn't want it to be too matchy-matchy and with all the white around the place a little bit of contrast probably wouldn't go astray. We're also having a black chalk board feature wall in the kitchen too (it's the wall directly opposite the fridge recess on the plans) and I think the White Duck Half will look really good next to the black. Anywho, I'd best stop typing. I think I've purged my entire thought process regarding paint colours in this post! As always, would love to hear any opinions. And of course… MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!! Stay safe and well. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Paint colou 474Dec 24, 2013 4:31 pm I like the White Duck Half. I can see the pink the quarter is throwing in this picture & the Half seems more modern, I think it will go well with the white kitchen. The front is looking great too, gee you've got good taste Merry Christmas fancy pants! Hope you're planning next Christmas in your new place! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Paint colou 475Dec 24, 2013 4:34 pm I used white duck 1/4 in my old house. No pink when on the walls just looked cream or grey depending on light. This is with flash and western afternoon sun. When its gloomy day the house was dark so half would of been too dark This is 1/4 (ignore my old furniture etc haha) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Paint colou 476Dec 24, 2013 5:04 pm Thanks Nic. This photo looks great, Leanne. I initially thought the pink was a result of the Jarrah but it's there (during certain times of the day) regardless of the flooring. Or maybe my eyes are just tormenting me! Looking at this image I'm wondering if White Duck Quarter is too light for the area we want to paint. We will have light coming in from three sides, pretty much all day, so I'm worried it will just look like another shade of white. But then I do like my whites… AAAARRGGGGHHH!! I think we'll need to take the colour boards to the house once our SS is back!!
