Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 04, 2013 8:57 pm hey there... im currently in the process of finalising a build with Fairmont's here in SA , and my home will have a dark colorbond roof... With this current 6 star energy rating for new builds , my walls will be insulated in R2.0 and my ceilings are in R4.0 My concerns are with the colorbond roof , which apparently is just attached to the timbers with no blanket or foil type material in between, which got me worried if that is a normal scenario and if the roof space & heating/cooling ductwork would be greatly affected by the heat.. im guessing the R4.0 is an acceptable form of ceiling insulation but with all the heat in the ceiling trying to penetrate through it might get less effective... and with a blanket type material under the tin , would in turn keep heating/cooling costs down ? the roof blanket I was thinking about getting installed was R1.3 with the foil on the bottom of the insulation material. It worked out to be about $3700 extra for the home of about 260sq. Metres, and a 25 degree roof pitch.. what would I benefit , pro's and cons ? thanks for your help.. Re: Colorbond roof - insulating blanket questions.. 2Dec 06, 2013 6:57 am Your thermal assessor can run a scenario including the added RFL & blanket and give you an output of the heating & cooling figures which you can compare with the original configuration. Based on this you can calculate the savings per year from your power cost. Peter Clarkson - AusDesign Australia www.ausdesign.com.au This information is intended to provide general information only. Re: Colorbond roof - insulating blanket questions.. 3Dec 08, 2013 1:08 pm I would suggest getting at least the foil under the colourbond to help stop condensation running and dripping in your roof space. Know one person who had the issue where they had mould growing. In saying that not everyone agrees with that Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10871 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 21274 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 3453 |
