Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - pad down 4Nov 22, 2013 7:55 pm Glad to hear they've been busy on your block and you've been busy starting a thread! I like your plan. Lots of clever storage. I'm going to take another look at our plan to see where we can add storage - though we'll do that after handover. Put your best sleeper in bedroom 2 and you shouldn't need extra insulation. I also like your kitchen space/bench addition. How big is your block? http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - pad down 6Nov 23, 2013 7:38 pm Choosing colours:
As we have always lived NOR..... in the Bedford.... Bassendean.... character-y type areas..... we always pictured ourselves in a red brick house. So that is what we set out to achieve. However, we were absolutely certain that we wanted a clay tiled roof. Finding a clay roof tile that wasn't black was a challenge. We also couldn't find an example of a light tiled roof that had aged particularly well and there just were not enough examples around for us to take a chance on a light tiled roof. After A LOT of umming and aahing we went back to the drawing board. Our theme/ intention for the exterior became - sand castle/ sand dune/ serenity. And decided on a cream brick..... Hamelin by Austral Bricks. http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/hamelynbrick_zps9d2a8134.jpg Our chosen roof tile colour then became brown, or Truffle in the Vienna profile to be more exact. It is darker than I wanted but the overall look works. This is an example of a house with the truffle roof tile in the vienna profile.... http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/Rooftileinspirationtruffle_zpsd7bb0bb2.jpg We also like a lot of the colours in the above pic. After painting lots of sheets of card and running up to houses that we liked.... the colour we have chosen is Solver paint's doeskin for the render colour and teriyaki for the gutter colour (which is a very good match for the truffle roof tile). http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/Our%20new%20home%20by%20the%20sea/exteriorcolours_zps80c3897d.jpg The window frame colour kept us up for many nights.... but we finally decided to choose a colour as close to the render colour as possible, so we decided on "moonglow" (by Affinity Windows). The inspiration for this choice was this house: http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/Our%20new%20home%20by%20the%20sea/windowframeinspiration_zps126ca1b7.jpg The stone cladding at the top of the portico is a sandstoney type quartz composite called lite stone, we chose the colour "tiger sand". (it looks quite orange in this pic but it is more of a sandstone colour) http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/Our%20new%20home%20by%20the%20sea/litestonetigersand_zps5f147aa1.jpg Our garage door will be the wood look type - the darkest one called "caoba".... our front door will be wooden also and stained as close to the garage door colour that we can possibly do. A tip to anyone building with ContentLiving - they told us at prestart that we could not have the front door stained and that it had to be painted. We discussed this with them a lot and they have "allowed" us to have it stained but we have to stain it ourselves (they have had problems with the stain running in the past and don't want to be responsible for it). We had thought through our exterior colours so much, there was no way I was going to change the front door at the last minute and ruin the whole colour scheme..... so stain it ourselves we will do. Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - pad down 7Dec 03, 2013 8:38 pm Sewer line connected today. Sh!t is finally (and literally), happening. http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/Our%20new%20home%20by%20the%20sea/V__6540_zps5e808e1c.jpg Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - pad down 9Dec 07, 2013 11:46 pm Love the changes you have made to the orginal plan and your colour/tile selection. We are also building with Content in Wandi, using a modified Atherton floor plan (minus the expensive front elevation) our pad was only laid today - very exciting. I wonder if we will catch up with you, seeings our house is smaller than yours?? I will be following your build with much interest Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brickie has started 10Dec 08, 2013 9:41 pm Well I thought this post was going to be all about the bricks.... which arrived on Friday.

Woot! It's all happening!!! We might have walls by Christmas. We have been very happy with Content so far - very professional. I will follow your build with interest too. All the best. Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brickie has started 12Dec 08, 2013 11:18 pm Yeah on bricking starting today. Can I please ask did you get your soakwells by builder? We didn't as our sales rep said to get another company to do them cheaper - $2000 cheaper thanks very much!! But I am unsure when I should get them to installed? Also who did you get your electrical audio visual/phone/Internet thru? Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brickie has started 13Dec 08, 2013 11:28 pm Yeah Lewis.... I was a little concerned that we wouldn't have anything before Christmas..... a very pleasant surprise with it starting today. We are going to organize our own soakwells too. I'm not sure when we will do them - our neighbour has been doing their own while they house has been completed. We will hire someone to do them though - it has taken our neighbour a lot of energy (although they have saved heaps of money) - but as we have a toddler we'd prefer to spend our time with him. I'll check with our SS about when we can have them done. We haven't organized our electrical audio/ visual stuff yet either.... we had some extra conduits put in though.... we had so much going on at prestart we decided we'd look into it later. Who did you choose to go through? Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brickie has started 14Dec 08, 2013 11:46 pm We were a little overwhelmed at pre start and decided to look into things later. Electrical is being done by D&S communications (Darrell Wyatt) 0417914387 he is one that the builder uses regularly and was very helpful. We went to him direct as I thought what intelligent homes was charging was WAY too expensive (their basic setup of 3 points for $1500 - OMG!), we got heaps more outlets with D&S for just under $1000. Darrell told us to contact him at plate height and he will start wiring then and finish everything upon lockup. As we have 3 kids and very little time, we are also out sourcing our Soakwell installation, 11 x 262 litre trafficable polypropylene with geo-textile fabric using Soakwells R us 0400665312 $1650 (builder was trying to charge $3500 OMG again) But not sure when these need to be installed?? Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brickie has started 15Dec 08, 2013 11:53 pm We were very overwhelmed at prestart... all our energy in the lead up was choosing colours. Thank you for those contact numbers. I will contact Darryl tomorrow and find out what the deal is. I really don't know anything about smart wiring etc. I'll let you know what our SS says when we meet with him in the new year. My husband is saying that soakwells can be done any time but ideally should be done before paving if possible (which is what our neighbour is doing). Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brickie has started 16Dec 09, 2013 12:24 pm hehehe - first Christmas card from anyone received today.... and it's from our builder. Too funny. (but a nice touch) Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - back wall is up 17Dec 11, 2013 6:57 pm And we have the outside of the back wall and some window frames! http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad277/joyfulbuilder/Our%20new%20home%20by%20the%20sea/V__3E9F_zpse321a0b0.jpg We haven't seen this with our own eyes yet - our lovely neighbour has sent us these shots. We'll see it ourselves on the weekend. Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - back wall is up 18Dec 11, 2013 7:23 pm wooohoo looking good! We have finally been given a Rachel as our CLO and Reece as our supervisor. We were also told that it is unlikely to have bricks delivered before xmas due to theft!? Seriously who is going to pinch a pallet of bricks?! Who is looking after your build? Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - back wall is up 19Dec 11, 2013 7:32 pm People pinch weird things. Our neighbours were broken into a few times during their build - people stealing tiles. Tiles! Our CLO is Chrissy and she has been great. I am not sure who our supervisor is - he spoke to my husband but I didn't get his name. Re: Halls Head WA - Content-Living - brick work almost done 20Jan 19, 2014 5:43 pm It has been a little while since I posted. We were very fortunate to not have a Christmas shut down - our brickie even worked Boxing Day and New Years Day. Everything is coming along well and we are very happy. Our brickie seems to be quite "old school" and there is not the gaps between bricks that I have seen at other builds. We have about 15% of the bricking to go so we expect the walls to be completely done within the next two weeks. My door tends to rub against the frame during winter and I'm looking to fix it so it closes smoothly.
