Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Oct 31, 2013 1:32 am Hi all, Just after some info on IP56 switches as I'm even more confused after a good go at googling... We are almost at handover and the builder has installed an IP56 light switch in our ensuite. This is an annoyance for us as it is a white square button light switch and cover plate and the rest of our house is a charcoal grey with round button face plates so they don't match at all. Does anyone know why they would have changed this light switch to the IP56? I've figured out it's some kind of waterproof switch but don't understand why it is required here and no where else. Our other bathroom has a light switch within 5cms of the shower screen and it's a normal switch. Will be asking the site supervisor next week but just wanted to have some info prior to the meeting. These are the plans: I'm thinking it may have something to do with the fact the screen door opens towards the switch? http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/xxkat86xx/ensuite_zps3aadfa24.png This is what it looks like just prior to the shower screens going in (fully framed if that makes a difference): The light switch has just been cut off but it is on the left of the photo Re: IP56 light switch 2Oct 31, 2013 4:52 am One low cost fix may be to have the light switch on the other side of the wall so you switch the light on before you go into the ensuite.
