Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 13, 2013 11:48 am Hi, Our kitchen mixer tap is leaking (cracked body) and needs replacing. Unfortunately, the hot water stop tap below the sink does not appear to stop the water flow. Seems like something isn't working inside. The cold water one is fine. I've replaced the mixer before so I know the stop tap was working previously. Just wondering if there is any way to replace the mixer. i.e. can i stop the flow of water to the hot water unit and drain it before replacing the mixer? Will this damage the hot water unit? The unit is about 3 years old. Any other suggestions appreciated... Re: Replacing Mixer tap when stop tap not working... 3Oct 13, 2013 7:26 pm Hi HeathWilD, Picture of the hotwater unit. The top hose going into the unit is marked as inlet and bottom tube (central to the unit) is marked as outlet. The other tub on the bottom is the gas pipe. I figure it will drain the hotwater system to a point so I can do the repair work. The other option I thought was to shut the outflow from the hot water unit, however way the taps are setup, I have no idea what will shut it off. Re: Replacing Mixer tap when stop tap not working... 4Oct 13, 2013 7:35 pm No, turning of the mains tap won't drain the hot water system when you have a hot tap on, you'll get a little dribble then nothing. Same as the cold side. So all good! Turn off at mains, then go ahead and fix! 4 Re: Replacing Mixer tap when stop tap not working... 5Oct 14, 2013 6:52 pm Hi I agree with Seano, turn off all the water at the main, and then fix the mixer tap and replace the washer in the stop tap too. You can if you want to close the stop tap on the HWS as well for an hour or 3, but don't leave it like that for a really long time unless the electrical supply to the HWS is also off. Having lots of old towels under the sink will help in there. Cheers I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7540 Okay sorry silly me, my wife has solves the mystery for me. It’s because the labels on the ports are all wrongly positioned by the builder hence it confuses me. 2 1382 2 8359 |
