Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 8002Sep 09, 2013 12:18 pm MummaDJ MZMontague - looking forward to hearing about your PCI, we can't be too far behind you.... Ally007 - re tiles, all I can imagine is that they get some sort of better pricing in massive bulk for the Cat 1 tiles, so therefore bump it up on the others. I have read on this forum before that the pricing is directly for the upgraded tiles, you are not paying a difference in price between Cat 1 to the Cat 5, if you understand what I mean. They don't seem to credit you for not using standard tiles??? Check back on this thread, perhaps Nov/Dec/Jan and see if info around then. Have updated photos on my blog today - plumbing, electrial, wardrobe fit outs happening, mirrors installed....all looking quite real (and dusty!) I'm just over the whole tile thing right now, we are going with Cat 1 on the floor anyway so I'll just find something cheaper for the bathroom walls. Apparently they have to take better care of the more expensive tile and blahblahblahblah... we'll know exactly what kind of BS they are talking about on the 26th... Re: Porter Davis homes 8003Sep 09, 2013 12:20 pm meowsy Ally, when is your tile appointment? Which house are you building again? Our tile upgrade was around $1800 from memory, for Cat 2 tiles, for floor to ceiling tiles though in bathroom and ensuite. (Then we had an additional $800ish for the extra noggins). This is for a Montrose which has small bathrooms. We had a lovely staff member, Priscilla, when we had our tile appointment and she was very knowledgeable and helpful... Well our roof is now on and bricks onsite to be laid beginning next week. I love the look of the bricks. Can't wait to see them in place! Hi meowsy, our tile appointment is on the 26th, so another 17 days to go... and we are building the Montague 21. We are not upgrading the floor tiles, just the wall tiles in the bathroom and the wall tiles in the kitchen, but the kitchen wall is HUGE. we gave ourself a $1500 allowance for tiles so we better stick with it! lol Re: Porter Davis homes 8004Sep 09, 2013 12:38 pm Back in Australia after few weeks, due to some family stuff. All delayed, land titles from Aug to Oct now. We are definitely delayed overall by few months now. Seems like early next year start. It's fantastic to see everyone is progressing do well here. Can't wait to go through different threads tonight. Re: Porter Davis homes 8005Sep 09, 2013 12:40 pm I received an email from PD for free colour bond roof upgrade. Would this apply in my case? Nothing signed yet. Re: Porter Davis homes 8006Sep 09, 2013 4:54 pm Hi Ally007, We were told exactly the same thing when we went to national tiles as well. We told our BC who said it was not correct as we shouldn't be charged twice for labour costs! We were always expecting to pay more for upgrade tiles, but to be basically told we have to pay for labour twice is jut stupid. The BC suggested that maybe the people at NT didn't understand we had already optioned in a flooring package & all would be worked out at the appointment... I however have little to / no faith that this will ring true. We won't be agreeing to anything in the tile appointment if we are being excepted to pay twice for labour. Would be better to get our 5k flooring pack credited off and then simply going back and using that money to help pay for the tiles? So confusing Re: Porter Davis homes 8007Sep 09, 2013 6:05 pm Frame Inspection booked for tomorrow with our independant inspector - hopefully all goes well. Work on roof should start later this week, hopefully we will make up some time once we get to hebel stage of things. Will update pics on blog tomorrow. Re: Porter Davis homes 8008Sep 09, 2013 9:31 pm Mummadj - your house looks amazing... Your colour selection looks fantastic.... Clairemum - we had our frame inspection last week.. They actually did a really good job... We were told there is normally 10-15+ problems at this stage and they only found three... I am always a bit scared to tell our SS but he has been really receptive to the feedback which is pleasing.. I will say though - between Friday week ago and now - not much has happened... It has basically taken them a week to put the scaffolding up on the 2nd level and the guard rail. So, maybe tomorrow something will happen.. All good on our front - had bricks and roof tiles delivered. I expect something to happen soon... Inglewood - congrats on site start date... HI ajd78, who are you using for inspection and how much is it costing you? We are pretty sure we will be having an independent inspector as well, we are just looking into who to get right now. So confusing Hi Joshcunno, isn't that just ridiculous? it's a rip off! I'm happy we picked Cat 1 floor tiles for the wet areas anyway so I'll just have to pick something else for the walls, We had out electrical and colour appointment last Friday and realised that the tiles I liked for the bathroom wall don't match the cupboards anyways so it's going to be easier to let go. Have you had your colour app yet? Ours was awesome, we has Jessica (Jozica) and she was amazing, hubby and I didn't have a single fight while picking colours and Jessica was really helpful with her opinions and advice. Re: Porter Davis homes 8011Sep 10, 2013 10:00 am Woohoo had PCI yesterday!! and Handover will be next Friday! yay! Luckily for us nothing too major needs fixing. For those out there not using an Independent inspector I highly recommend bringing a friend or family member to PCI. We brought our parents and I'm so glad we did, as there was a lot that we had missed that they had picked up on. All in all it went well and I can't wait for it to be all mine! Ally, how was your colour appointment on Friday? hi mzmontague, it was great actually, Jessica (Jozica) was awesome and help us decide on things we were either unsure of or we had different opinions. I think we went over budget though so we'll have to cut some things out this Friday at contract signing. Yeah it's just crazy. Working in business I can't understand the logic in it all apart from trying to rip people off. After reading through this forum it really shows if you are not prepared to take a bit of a stand then you will just keep getting the wool pulled over your eyes. Glad you found the tile u like, unfortunately for us we are tiling the whole house and cat 1 tiles just won't give us the look we are wanting. Understand it's our first house and we can't have everything but think tiles are important to get right hopefully at our tile appointment they can clarify everything and understand we have already paid for labour and materials as part of our package! Nope have not had colour appointment yet, we have been to hopetown a few times now so have a pretty good idea what we want... Except for the splashback in the kitchen.. Can't work out what colour!!! HI ajd78, who are you using for inspection and how much is it costing you? We are pretty sure we will be having an independent inspector as well, we are just looking into who to get right now. Hi Ally, we are using Houspect. They are great! They organise directly with the SS and send the report and photos promptly.... The cost depends on the size of your house. Ours is 43sq and we are getting all 5 stages. With that in mind, I think it works out to be approx. $1900-$2000 in total... Can highly recommend thus far. Re: Porter Davis homes 8020Sep 11, 2013 6:14 am Hi Everyone! Thank you to all for posting about your experiences with PD, it certainly makes for some interesting reading, and gives people like myself (our first experience at building) a bit of insight as to what we are in for. We are building the Montague 21 with the 4th bedroom, extended kitchen & grand alfresco upgrade. Our tile appointment is on the 28th of this month and going straight to contract on the 30th (no color appointment as yet). I am really interested to know what color scheme's people have used in their kitchen's especially. I am trying my hardest to stick with Cat 1 choice's as I have a very limited budget. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 13800 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 108709 Hi there!
