We opted to have insulation in all the walls (ceiling was required for energy rating), plus the extra acoustic batting for the home theatre room. Sooo much insulation! The insulation guys weren't the smartest bunch as they put in insulation over the top of speaker cables in the HT room. Hubby had to feed it back out. Hubby had the pre-plastering walk through on Thursday and all's good. So the house is now essentially at lock-up. Reason being we've had a bit (a lot) of a sad time in our house with the loss of our pet cat Kiki who had to be euthanised last Friday. As tough as it is going through that with any pet, she was a young cat with no prior poor health who just came down with 'a cough' and 5 days later nothing could be done to save her. As you can imagine this has been a real shock to the family and we are really feeling her loss. I have not felt like doing any house updates because it doesn't seem right to be happy over anything right now. I know that's a phase and it will pass, but - yeah. Here she is: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ *sigh* So, here are the updates anyway. We've got floorboards done and plaster going in. The floorboard is Messmate. What gorgeous markings she had. It does get easier. We had to do the same with our 17 year old cat last January. I sometimes still 'see' her out the corner of my eye and often think I hear her bell. I lost one of my dogs earlier in the year and miss him every single day. I just wish I could have one last cuddle. Like you I had to put him down and it was so hard. I'm glad I have a great photo of him, just like the one you have of Kiki. I'm sending you my sincerest wishes that your memories of her will bring you and your family solace. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - :( 191Aug 22, 2013 11:49 pm Thank you both. It's a dreadful thing to have to go thru, wouldn't wish it on anyone to be honest. But, we have to remember the good times, & there were plenty. We lost our darling cat of 16 years not long ago and I still miss him dearly. They are so much part of our family, and it hurts so much. Hard to explain unless you go through it. So I wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and understand some of your grief. The photos and memories are so precious, I hope you can take some comfort that Kiki had a wonderful life with you. Take care and I'm really looking forward to seeing your house finished. You have a beautiful home and so much like the vision I have for ours, so I love following your thread. Sending you my sincere thoughts and best wishes at this time. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - :( 193Aug 24, 2013 12:24 am Sorry about your cat Cinder, she was just gorgeous, she looks like a Bengal. My cat is getting. Your home is looking amazing. Take care Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - :( 194Aug 24, 2013 10:33 am Thank you Miss Marple, exactly right. It's hard because I'm trying not to think about it but then I feel I don't want to forget her so it's a torn feeling. The most difficult part of having pets. Thanks Charnley, yes she was a Bengal cat with an amazing personality. Expected to have so much longer with her but at the end of the day you just never know. Certainly reminds you of the fragility of life. ANYWAY! We are away this weekend so no more house pics but will get some Mon. Really getting a feel for the final product now. Best part is, stairs are in so we no longer need to use a ladder to go upstairs.
