Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 27Aug 28, 2013 10:02 pm We regretted it and want to tile all the way up after handover. Been told that apart from matching tiles the only drama is if you want your cornices on top of the tile rather than butting up against it. Sometimes the tile is thicker than the cornice. Hoping it still looks okay. Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 28Sep 04, 2013 3:13 pm HI Amancharmar, thanks for that. I hear a lot of people regretting the decision now. I will wait for the quotes and then we shall decide Are you going to do both your bathroom and ensuite or just one of them? Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 29Sep 05, 2013 12:58 am We will probably get ensuite and then the bathroom part of the three way bathroom. Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 30Sep 10, 2013 2:54 am I am doing floor to ceiling tiling in all wet areas except the laundry. The last house I rented had this and it was so easy to keep clean and I thought it looked classy. Due to sheer cost the builder was quoting I opted to nominate my own tiler. The builder quoted my $9000 on top of my tiling in the build but a friendcrecommended a tiler who quoted my $4000 plus it cost me $900 extra for wall tiles. The tile supplier gave them to me at trade price and will also issue from same batch as the ones being ordered by the builder. This will reduce colour differences. So I suggest you speak to your tile supplier to get extra tiles from same batch. Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 31Sep 10, 2013 2:53 pm Is it really as simple as getting your own tiler in after handover and "continuing" the tiling right to the ceiling?? Wouldn't there be waterproofing issues or something? Wouldn't there be waterproofing issues or something? It is actually more of a case if the tilers have made sure that the skirting row of tiles is level and the tiles joints will match up. With our tilers we said that we would want to floor to ceiling tile after handover so they made sure that they were level and that tiles on either side of the door would match up with they met at the top. We might look into that option since we're getting the main living area tiled after handover anyway (and we know where the wet area tiles are coming from). But what about waterproofing..... do tiles really just go on the painted wall? I thought there had to be something underneath them.. Those prices are insane!! I wouldn't hesitate to get floor to ceiling tiles if you get a descent quote $4000 is out of the ball park I see so many houses with just the 2 tiles high behind the bath & looks cheap & unfinished that's just my opinion It's money we'll spent I wouldn't purchase a house without out! Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 37Sep 13, 2013 10:44 am We are doing our main bathroom and it cost about $1500 extra to go to the ceiling... with upgraded/larger tile laying cost allowed in that too. We opted not to do it in the end for our ensuite as the layout didnt leave much wall space visable anyway, one wall was the shower (up to 2100mm anyway) and the double vanity covered the other wall with the mirror going all the way up to 2100mm and the other wall was a large window. And we have a seperate toilet off the ensuite, so it just wasnt an issue. I'm glad that we decided to do it in the main bathroom though, because there is exposed wall space in there. And for $1,500 - I'm happy! We also requested - from the builder - that the cornices be built out ie with a gap between them & the wall, to take into account the tile edge. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Floor to ceiling bathroom tiles 39Sep 19, 2013 2:50 am Our ensuite has for all the good stuff like stone benches and floor to ceiling tiles. Unfortunately my hubby was not at all interested in upgrading anything in the bathroom as we won't use it - it will just be for visitors. I wouldn't have minded spending the money tere but after its built i might look at getting a timer in to do that. I did upgrade our bath though as I felt the second bathroom would be a bit sad. Unlimited budget would be no worries I guess. I doubt it was only $1,000, which will only get you about 12sqm of porcelain tiles (installed, at cost). I like the look, I also did floor to ceiling in my laundry as it's a thoroughfare.
