Re: Addicted to Building! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 3Aug 18, 2013 10:59 pm Love, love, love your plan! The front looks awesome. Also love subway tiles, so classic. Exciting times Re: Addicted to Building! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 4Aug 18, 2013 11:02 pm Yeah we went and had a visit the other week Jen, It's so awesome! If budget permits we are getting some of those brick feature walls but they are about $800 ish a wall so it may have to be wallpaper instead. Have to keep remembering this one isn't a forever home and keep ideas like that for a few homes time. Haha! After my second round variations my sales rep reminded me of my goals we said in the first meeting - "are you sure you need that exposed brick feature on the study nook wall"... LOL! Hehe we then ended up removing overhead cabinetry from the build to do PHO because we reached the pointy end of our budget sigh! Done it once.. Lived in it a year.. Sold it.. Doing it again! Look forward to seeing what you do and you choices inside I grew up in this neck of the woods when we were told we lived in the sticks! I remember when pearsall, where we are building, was just market gardens! Re: Addicted to Building! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 8Aug 18, 2013 11:51 pm Love the tiles, do you have tile shop in mind? Re: Addicted to Building! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 9Aug 19, 2013 9:09 am Hey - I am doing subway tiles as well. Not sure if the jjs got back to you but the place she found her tiles was the Edwardian tile shop. Can send you info on what mine cost -but i think it was around 140-160 a sq/m. Generally you are doing a fairly small area so it's not too $$$. They have a few different types though so it's worthwhile checking out the store! Re: Addicted to Building! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 10Aug 21, 2013 12:11 pm Subscribing! Dale Alcock Homes. For a confined space I personally wouldn't wall off the study nook, but rather find a more flexible way of screening it with furniture to preserve the open space, but that is a personal choice. Good luck and enjoy the process ... again Completely get what your saying - and we toyed with that study endlessly. In the end we thought about it from a family point of view, and somewhere to have the kids play / study off the living area with a place to hide some storage would be a key selling point for some people. (Thinking like my sister here ha). For me though, I'll just be working away in there drinking wine. haha! Done it once.. Lived in it a year.. Sold it.. Doing it again! Addicted to Building.. Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 13Aug 21, 2013 10:43 pm Seriously, finance is driving me mental at the moment! So much happening at once - moving in to the rental in 2 weeks so have to pack, confirming sale and settlement of our current place at the moment (seriously - fingers and toes crossed all goes well), organising settlement for the block purchase AND going back and forth with the bank on paperwork to get that approval sorted. fun and games. fun and games. why can't I the fun part sooner! I want my prestart folder now! bah! Done it once.. Lived in it a year.. Sold it.. Doing it again! Addicted to Building.. Finance was approved on the land! woohoo! just finalising paperwork at the moment to get it sorted out. We've just finished moving into our rental which is awesome - and going to prep our old place for settlement over the next week or so (final clean etc). In regard to the house plans, we've had a change of heart on most of the alterations we made to the plan and we're going 'back to base' - adding in only the most important things just so we can fit into our budget better. Dales have been AMAZING throughout the plan refining stage - seriously awesome. So, new plans are coming soon (along with a new, budget facade ha ). Stay posted! Paying our DAH deposit this month to lock everything in and get started - cant wait for prestart!! Done it once.. Lived in it a year.. Sold it.. Doing it again! Addicted to Building.. Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 16Sep 09, 2013 10:31 am Exciting times! Really looking forward to following the progress of your home. (While I'm still here, which is only for another three weeks before maternity leave!). I'll have to keep an eye out on the DAH Facebook page after that, so make sure you share some photos there! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 17Oct 02, 2013 4:20 pm Update time! Block settlement went through and it's now ours. We went out to the block Tuesday night to celebrate that we've secured our second piece of dirt - but of course it got dark before I could take the photo... Here's my sad attempt at a momento ha! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Aside from that - we've paid our DAH deposit and the drawings are being done at the moment! We ended up making some drastic changes so the plans at the start of this thread aren't really what we ended up with. I'll post the plan and new facia in a sec - bit of an image storm coming! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 18Oct 02, 2013 4:35 pm So - in the interest of maintaining our budget and keeping us in check, we had our Dales rep start again with us and we made changes with more restraint than previous! this way we could get flooring and window coverings in our budget! We're still building the Austin87, but with the following changes: Enlarged kitchen - wrap around bench, caesar stone and bulkheads... BIG kitchen Decreased dining space - to sit house better on block available and create a kitchen 'nook'/window Double vanity in ensuite Nib walls to lounge areas to hide tv cables (My bit of genius!) Door from garage to back garden Increased alfresco to 31 course to match living, increased door/window height to 28 course to suit in living Double sliders out from living area And last but not least - custom Facade which takes its reference from the Manhattan display! Plan: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Facade: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The facade is going to have the same colours and features as the Manhattan - though a basic 'monument' rollerdoor instead of the see through one and a single front door instead of double and no architectural steel. Should call it the 'Melbourne' - mini manhattan hehe!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thoughts on the new plan, facade and manhattan colours? We can't wait to see this go up! Turns out our neighbour is building the exact same house as us so we customized the front so we will look very different (ours will of course be far more fabulous! ) Done it once.. Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 19Oct 02, 2013 10:41 pm That is one amazing kitchen!! Can't remember the original plans but they look great. My only though was switch bedroom 2 and laundry and you could put door into laundry next to fridge. But this is personal preference as our laundry is off the kitchen and I am loving it it also means you could make the laundry the same width as bedroom 2 which means extra storage. The door could actually open next to tub which gives you a full wall of linen cupboard!! Did you want a bigger shower in ensuite? Also and I say this to everyone have you considered a normal door out of the laundry so then you could actually put the sink right up to what would be a wall.... I just wish I'd done it rather then a sliding glass door. Re: Addicted to Building! Building with Dale Alcock in Ashby 20Oct 02, 2013 10:52 pm fmac That is one amazing kitchen!! Our original plan where we went a bit crazy had the laundry moved around but this was one of the things we decided should be held for the "forever" home and we left as standard. same with double shower in the ensuite which we later took out as everything was adding up. Was all about the cost/benefit for us in the end and we saved where we could so we really could spend big in living and kitchen Done it once.. Lived in it a year.. Sold it.. Doing it again! I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
