I also like jemathonical's idea to go for a minimal look, turn the underlying plainness of the house into its strength not its weakness. I'm not sure about the colour though, my guess is the darker the colour the more people either love or hate it, if its lighter people might not love it but they won't hate it either? But if there's a colour you love, go for it. Darker colours can be a great backdrop for lush greenery too. Landscaping can help but be careful and bare in mind future maintenance, reducing the grass can reduce maintenace or add to it. If done well it ought to reduce mowing and make the house look better. Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 13Mar 29, 2014 10:03 am Adding some visual bulk and scale will help. A picket fence, some landscaping, a little deck, a nice door, creating a welcoming entry. I think it's the flat roof that makes the house look caravan like... I wonder what you could do with that...? Re: Is there any hope for the facade of this house? 14Jul 20, 2014 1:23 pm It needs a proper entrance. Even an arbour spanning that front path would help. Nice gardens to take the focus off the house. I'd keep any additions modern (square, shape, plain) so it doesn't jarr with the house. Nothing worse than a modern home tissied up with a bit an inappropriate fretwork, iron lace and cutesey victorian gardens. I'd go for slat hardwood shades across the front windows and some nice shrubbery, complimented by a rectangular arbour out the front with hardwood slats and some attractive vine.
