Your floor drain should run outside and then into a pipe located in the ground. What we had was the pipe in the gorund was filling up with water when it rained which disturbed all the various rotting leaves etc and it backed up into the floor drain. Next time it is raining check and see if you can see any water in your floor drain Re: Smell in bathroom after it rains 6Jul 15, 2013 7:50 pm Althom I'd stick with checking the floor drain - have had this before. Silly question but I thought the water from toilet, bathroom and kitchen all connected to the same pipe. Then water from the downpipes went to another drain/pipe. If this is the case why would the pipes that service toilet bathroom etc fill up when it rains? But is there some type of access thing near the outside wall of your bathroom with an open grille style cover? We've got one and now I think on it I remember it did once get filled up with mulch when we started doing our landscaping. We noticed it when the water in that bathroom wasn't draining out as fast as before. There is no reason why your waste pipes in your bathroom should smell if it rains outside. I've got a feeling your plumber connected a storm water pipe to your sewer. Also, if the plumbing has been done correctly and all your waste pipes have s traps on them as they should, theoretically there shouldnt be any smell. Re: Smell in bathroom after it rains 10Jul 16, 2013 9:44 am Our floor drains used to really stink. I just shoved a bunch of draino down each drain and it worked reasonably well. The house had an extension probably around 20 years ago (previous owners) and for some stupid reason they connected the downpipes to the outside grate (overflow). This is now not the case as i have redone all the roof downpipes to use the stormwater pipes and not the sewer. Re: Smell in bathroom after it rains 12Jul 16, 2013 6:15 pm But why would it continue to smell when it rains if I have changed all the down pipes to the storm water instead of the sewer. Unless I missed something along the way. Re: Smell in bathroom after it rains 13Jul 16, 2013 11:12 pm Where is the smell strongest, down near the floor or up near the ixl you said in your first post. Is there anything outside the bathroom wall where something could of fallen into the bathroom pipes? I Think I have found where the smell is coming from. I went to check the new storm water pipes as the rain was heavy and I went check to see if I could see any water anywhere and I did which is good news. There is water coming somehow on the sewer vent (the outlet for the fumes etc). This pipe is in the wall cavity and at te entry point the wood is wet. I assume the wood etc is wet all around the pipe as it goes in the cavity. Will be getting on the roof when it's dry to see what the story is. Thanks for everyone's input Re: Smell in bathroom after it rains 16Apr 14, 2014 10:30 pm I also request you to look outside of the bathroom.May be there are some garbage there.
