My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 5Jun 23, 2013 5:40 pm We looked at both back in January this year. Carlisle was better value in the end. But we also had a bad experience with the Metricon sales lady we dealt with, whilst the Carlisle sales person we had was very good. We basically fobbed the Carilsle guy off to start with, but he still came back to us with information. Whereas the Metricon lady we dealt with, said she would call us the next week, but didn't call until 2 weeks later and when she did call she didn't remember anything we had told her previously. After a bit of research too, we were also told by many that Carlisle had a better quality than Metricon and other companies. And a number of these people were in the building industry. We are up to Bricking stage at the moment and the plaster has been completed. We are happy with Carlisle so far. Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 10Jun 24, 2013 12:00 am Just do your research , and dont buy based on personalities. Ie. just because one brand has a better sales team, at one particular estate, it does not mean it will reflect on the quality of your home, but instead just makes people feel better when they are laying their hard earned on the table. that one extra phone call they make, makes people feel warm and fuzzy . Alot of carlisle homes in Sommerfield., does not mean they are any better, just more affordable. I like to think that by having a not so common home in an estate is favourable towards its value uniqueness and appeal. Dont you just hate seeing the same house 5 times in one street ? About salespeople and their deals, Write a firm list of questions, and ask each and every question you write down. Dont think you'll remember to ask, we all miss things when we are confronted with overbearing salespeople. And dont forget, with absolutely any builder. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING AGREED VERBALLY IS ON YOUR CONTRACT Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 12Jun 24, 2013 6:28 am al987 Do you mind me asking who you are building with? Not at all, I dont commission any of my houses to actually be built, i buy display homes al987.I am an investor. I do have a prefferential builder, but if i smell a good deal, my belly turns to jelly i can be swayed quite easilly I know alot bout the keysborough area, and general estate you are looking in, I grew up in the area, I also have friends who have built in Sommerfield, etc etc I could confidently say that alot of people on this forum , over the years have been inat least one of my houses:wink: at one time or another. I dont have the patience or nerve to build from scratch, that takes different breed, im a very firey , and one slippup by a builder could result in a nervous brekdown, and i'd go into killmode !hahahahahah ( being sarcastic) I have gone through what everybody goes through with every mainstream builder though, all the way up until contract signings, you could say im a great actor! and from there on till lock up with many of my familly and friends over the years. How else do you find out everything about the company, the way they deal, the houses they sell, the estate, the rate of which..... blocks are selling, i also find out alot about other estates across town from those salespeople who are just so desperate, ( saves me time and petrol!!) and so on !! Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 13Jun 24, 2013 7:07 am We were about to sign with Metricon when we discovered Carlisle. At the time it was more about the house suiting our needs (we built the Ascot 35) as the Metricon sales person was lovely and the experience had been fine. The promotion Carlisle was running was great and as you said the upgrades were more transparent. Down the road we became more and more happy we were building with Carlisle. We were able to get away with very few upgrades and the entire process was outstanding. We started construction at the same time as some PD and Metricon houses in our street and we were the first ones in by nearly two months. We've been in our house three months now and we are still delighted - don't have a bad thing to say about the entire process or the result. Check out my thread for pics etc. Building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes in Pasadena Estate, Clyde VIC My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59776 Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 14Jun 24, 2013 8:15 am al987 Hey everyone, newbie here. Just wondering on what the general consensus on the forum is about Metricon vs Carlisle. From first impressions, it seems like Metricon is slightly overpriced and tends to flog the 'brand', whereas Carlisle seems to be more value for money and 'what you see is what you get'. But what does everyone think? Thanks for your help... Our experience with Carlisle is that they have been open about pricing, options and what is included. The list of inclusions, depending on the range is good. At the sales point, they were there if we needed and happy to provide assistance and they knew their product well. Each stage of the process they have allowed us to ask all our questions (at our own time and pace - not theirs) and explorations of options. There promotions can be handy depending what you are after and we found the quality of the display homes to be really good. SPECTRA was great for seeing all the options under one roof and each person we dealt with at different stages/appointments was great. Our experience with Metricon was they display homes were nice, however we knew the price of them was very high. Didn't have any bad experience really, but they did want us sitting down with their internal finance person pretty fast. We do have friends who are going with them, and they opted to get a lower range metricon house - however they had to add atleast 60k in extras to the house price to get it near to the same level of our Infinity range (top range) house from Carlisle - to us it would seem easy to have it as standard and remove a mountain of variables and things that could go wrong as well. I think my pet hate with Metricon would have to be that even their lowest range of homes are upgraded like no tomorrow. Even the slightest thing like a window is upgraded. I've never seen the traditional 4-pane window in a Metricon display, yet this is standard? Good thing with Carlisle is that the T Range includes all the aluminium sliding doors, which are standard... Is everyone using their own mortgage broker, or going through the builders' finance departments? Hey al987, Im with Carlisle as well. I've gone with Carlisle's partner Loan studio mortgage brokers as my mortgage broker previously made it very complicated when I purchased my land, so wasn't prepared to do it again so decided to go with loan studios. they have been great so far Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 17Jun 24, 2013 3:53 pm February12 I've gone with Carlisle's partner Loan studio mortgage brokers as my mortgage broker previously made it very complicated when I purchased my land, so wasn't prepared to do it again so decided to go with loan studios. they have been great so far Same thing here! Loan Studio has been prompt, professional and answered queries quickly. Dealt with another company for the land and they managed to botch everything - very easy to get a bad broker firm/company. Was a painless process with Loan Studio and they have worked with Carlisle for some time now. Hey Jason-Vic, I totally agree 100% I spoke to Loan Studio all my questions were answered there and then, and then we had our meeting and sorted, now just waiting for contract etc I came out of the meeting shocked at what had happened, it wasn't a rollercoaster nightmare like when I was getting my land loan. Re: Metricon vs Carlisle 19Jun 24, 2013 6:19 pm Hi Al987, I've never heard good things about Metricon. For starters they were fined $500,000.00 for displaying things in their display homes that they couldn't actually offer to their clients. (2012) I've also heard that they buy cheap carpet even if you upgrade, they buy the cheapest upgrade but charge their clients for the most expensive.... So if you do choose them, make sure you go over your contract with a fine tooth comb and ask for an inventory on their cost of things.. Even follow up with the companies on the item and the cost. Good luck, looking forward to seeing what you decide We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37160 Carlisle use to sneak a water resistant "Performance Solution" into their contracts.
