Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 7421Jun 15, 2013 4:02 pm At the very least I'd be demanding that the cost of the niches be refunded. Horrible, horrible workmanship. Building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes in Pasadena Estate, Clyde VIC My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59776 Re: Porter Davis homes 7422Jun 15, 2013 4:43 pm tai27 madhouse1 Hi Tai, Our niches are definitely functional, nothing slides off them, (except the soap sometimes,) I checked with the displays too and ours have about the same slope as the displays do. In fact its only just noticeable that theres any slope at all. That they are saying they're purely decorative is a lazy excuse for poor workmanship. And that your SS seems to be trying to get away with not fixing it is unbelievable. Those niches (when done properly) are fantastic!! As for that bath tap issue OMG, common sense isn't that common in the plumbing world?? Good luck and don't accept their ****** and excuses, that's really just not good enough. Will definitely have this looked into though, I believe it is a lazy excuse for poor workmanship as well. He isn't actually fixing it but has come up with a "solution". Spoke to him again yesterday and bought up the shower niche slop issue again. Unfortunately there's nothing he can do, as it is purely meant to be a "feature". He said ripping it out will result in damaging the waterproofing and having to pull the entire shower and tiles apart. He spoke to the building manager and apparently they believe it is fine as well and that there's nothing wrong with it as there is "no requirement for how much slope there is". I don't understand, these niche's are demonstrated throughout your display homes as niche's for holding shower products etc, and everyone on here seems to believe that his excuse to get away with this is just absolutely unacceptable and frustrating. SOLUTION: He said he had a similar issue happen to him before and that the result in fixing it was putting a glass shelve on the bottom with a 10mm gap at the back (apparently client was happy with this and end result actually looks "good" and doesn't look like an "add on") OK - If you're going to put a glass bit there then I might as well not have included these niches in my contract and bought glass shelves and installed them myself instead!! Oh it just gets worse. That really isn't an acceptable solution in my opinion anyway. Can you imagine the mould and 'gunk' you'd end up with around that glass shelf. I'd be asking for it to be done properly, even if that means ripping it all apart and re waterproofing. Niches that are useless are really no good for anything and would be more frustrating than not having them at all. Re: Porter Davis homes 7423Jun 15, 2013 6:16 pm I'm having niches in both my showers and would not tolerate your situation. If it means ripping up the whole bathroom to fix it, that's their problem not yours. Don't back down on this one, you'll see this glaring screwup daily and will never be happy. Putting a sheet of glass in is a safety issue unless its tempered and strengthened to tolerate impact and sudden changes in temperature too. HD Re: Porter Davis homes 7424Jun 15, 2013 6:51 pm Using oh we have to re water proof is poor form our tiles where laid wrong 2 phone calls later they we ripped down and room replastered and water proofed all in a week I believe so dont take the fix. Teach them do it right first time. For a PD MANAGER to turn around and say that everything is fine and give some stupid excuse of "no requirement for how much slope there is" ... .that is just plain silly ... The glass slab ... even if it was tempered glass would allow so much water, crap and mould under it that you could never clean it! Imagine the stench coming from under that glass slab after a year of constant use of the shower! No not yet but after hearing what has also happened with you I wouldn't be surprised. With yours though they'd definitely be more lenient compared to ours considering with ours "there's no requirement for how much slope there is" hrmm. Imagine the stench coming from under that glass slab after a year of constant use of the shower! Thanks both for making me realise what issues could be arisen if they were to put the glass there. Looks like I'm going to have to fight this then. Hopefully someone from the PD management team get back to me asap. jnkbids your build is looking great by the way! I'm loving your blog. Just by looking at your photos of your niche as well and you couldn't even tell there was any issue with the slope of your niche (but then again it depends from the again it was taken I guess) Caulking was also done on Friday.. The slope continues.. Our independent inspector will be meeting us there half an hour before the inspection to talk things over though so that's reassuring. Exciting stuff, all the best on the day! Who is your independent inspector if you don't mind me asking? Our PCI is on the 27th of this month. Everyone seems to be having their independent come out on the day of PCI but our BS said to get them to come out a day or two after Porter Davis' own inspectors (BSS Inspectors) have come out? Does this sound right? Never really done this before so would like to know how this process usually works. Re: Porter Davis homes 7434Jun 16, 2013 10:08 pm Can someone pls quote facade prices for lifestyle double storey range? i noticed on h1 lot of people are upgrading bricks. is this due to quality difference or just for look? what kind of staircase are standard and what upgrade options are available? thanks. The one in the Ensuite would be fixed (not sure how the slop will be now though) but the one in the main bathroom will not as both the BS and the management team believe there isn't an issue with it and meets the "requirements"

Not good enough. I hope you send your BC this vid? How can they think there is nothing wrong with that? It is not functional. Your video isn't a good advertisement for PD, Pantene or Jif!! Re: Porter Davis homes 7439Jun 17, 2013 9:52 pm Hi guys sorry for anyone who has heard this too many times. When are we getting 24/7 back? I am having extreme issues with non communication from anyone apart from Helen at PD. Does anybody know? If I am lucky enough that my BC picks up the phone all I get is "I will find out and get back to you" which has never happened yet. I get no response to emails or messages. Considering what we are paying for this house, I do not think it is too much to ask to let us know what is going on!
