Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 211Jun 03, 2013 10:01 pm Unreal Jetmaster is the company name the make heat and glow, they are of Victoria ave in castle hill. He said that when you build you go through a consultant. Have to find out more on this when we finalise the wall measurements so we work out which fireplace to use. Unreal and carak, that is what worries me the most. The the tender changes at the kitchen appointment and then again at the electrical. Have heard horror stories about this with $20 000 cost changes at these points. We have added most of it to our tender (long spreadsheet) but I am sure there will be a few just hope not 29 grand worth. Unreal sounds like we are at similar points, hopefully our plan will be almost spot on tomorrow. Have asked for a scale plan so that we can check measurements and room sizes to ensure they are all good and fit some of our existing furniture. Unfortunately we will not be able to buy new furniture for the whole house and have to do with our existing furniture for a lot of the rooms, so have to make sure it fits. Think DH is leaning towards a rack as it will be cheaper, Unreal great to have an electrician in the family. Think we might have to call in a favour to our electrician. He has offered to check out our plans for us, should take him up on the offer. He has done a lot of our electrical for us over the years, why stop now. Bring on tomorrow. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 212Jun 04, 2013 8:38 pm UpsizeTime Bring on tomorrow. Upsize any grand news to share Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 213Jun 04, 2013 8:39 pm carak777 unrealhome we added provisional sums for kitchen & electricals but you just never know how much items are going to cost and how many you are going to need so you really are only guessing what amount to include as a provisional amount. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 214Jun 04, 2013 10:11 pm well just managed to catch up on the last few pages.... anyone cold???? We're freezing our tooshies off in our heat free house so please add me to the fireplace bulk purchase!!!!! Do I make No.6... got to be a bargain there. Might head out to impressions this Saturday and get some new prices.. one I was looking at was about $7k but that was also with quite an amount of flu extension as our roof is so high and it's got to get to the top.. We didn't get our fireplace fitted for a certain fire just guessed it. All that has to happen now is the stud wall will get added, which impression will do in the opening to smallen the gap and the fire sits in it's zero fire surround, it all gets covered and that whole section tiled... With the cost of adding aircon, I'm even thinking we may do the fire sooner than later, because our plan is so open and practically no doors aircon heat would cost a fortune... Read about your kitchen concerns, it's strange, we didn't really pay more for ours, i paid to upgrade from 20mm to 50mm stone but that was about it... all our pot draws etc, never paid anything extra although it said our tender included 3, I now have 13 - not sure how that works but grateful. I designed our kitchen, they did the plans and that was it.... still waiting on my poly panel strip to go above my coffee machine though, still got a hole as the kitchen man made the cavity too tall, plus still no cutlery tray either.... left another message for him today saying that i am getting the feeling he is ignoring me now as I haven't had a single returned call.... yep, still no call today either.... not happy about the kitchen man, Kurmond have a few kitchen companies I think, won't say on here but I know which one you shouldn't go with. Anyway, glad everyone is moving along nicely and look forwrd to the next stages. Have to see what tomorrow brings. Bit disappointed, but on the up side allowed me to focus on my other work, the work that is going to pay the bills. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 216Jun 05, 2013 9:08 am Lilac great to hear from you, sorry you are feeling the cold but I am sure when you look around your beautiful home it gives you a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside. Funny isn't it, as soon as it start getting cold, everyone decides that want a fireplace, when it is hot again, everyone will want a swimming pool If we keep adding fireplace requests, I am sure there should be a great discount. Lilac if we all get a kitchen like yours, with the amount of pot draws and cupboards, I don't think any of us will be complaining, your kitchen is stunning. Hopefully we ALL get the 'good' kitchen company and don't have any issues. Would love to see some updated photo's.... please... UpsizeTime - TODAY IS THE DAY.... I can feel it in my waters..... Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 218Jun 05, 2013 6:18 pm Lilac well just managed to catch up on the last few pages.... anyone cold???? Carak, Upsize, Mars - I think we are getting ever closer to that bulk fireplace discount !!!! Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 219Jun 06, 2013 6:39 pm If you are serious with the fire places I would definitely check at real flame. They are round the corner from Impressions. I could see and feel the difference in the fireplaces. Funny you mention the pool, we have decided on the pool company now and are now speaking to a landscaper re pool and backyard landscape. DH and I want to make sure it is all tied together in regards to colour and layout. I am so worried we'll put the pool in the wrong place. Have to imagine everything prior to build as it has to go in first. We'll be ready for the weather in all seasons, whenever we are done. God only knows when that will be. Lilac great to hear from you and any tips on the build process is greatly appreciated. I will keep all what you have told me in my mind when we discuss kitchens. Thanks heaps, hope your stuff gets sorted soon! Received them on Wednesday but when I went through there were a few items not done correctly, completely wrong. I did have high expectations though, as I always do, I think I clearly marked it up, couldn't be clearer but still misunderstood and drawn wrong. Spoke to D about it and he apologised for not checking what the draftsman did, and is going to sort it for me. Which I know he will, just frustrated, think I am too eager. I should get it all fixed by Friday. Finalising plans can take ages, to get it all right, think going via email makes it even harder for all parties. Lets be realistic the draftsman has never meet me and has no idea of what I want, D needs to do all the updating to him, like playing Chinese whispers and we know how that game goes. On a positive though the main rooms were changed correctly and it looks great, happy we changed the media room around with the study and powder room. Also, stairs look great behind the garage. We have made the stairs storage access into the garage to gain so e space in there. which will help. Still need to do some tweaking with room sizes to get a better balance but it is looking good. Love upstairs, all 3 kids room have decent WIR, and I have my 3-way bathroom, plus I have a WIL. Storage heaven! Really if I look in perspective, it is the little bits not fixed correctly which is purely because it is via email. As we move closer it is these little pedantic things that are going to have to be right before finalising. Now hanging for tomorrow to receive plans. Long weekend this weekend, any exciting plans house or otherwise? We are having a house investigation free weekend by day. If we get the plans I will be going through it with a fine tooth comb. Even though I should be marking assignments and writing reports. Priorities??? Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 220Jun 07, 2013 2:32 pm UpsizeTime Mars DH is having the same thought with the data cabling, hills hub or own rack. Think it s more a space thing as well. Hills hub is quite neat, compared to a rack being bigger and bulkier. He is also wondering how to do all the AV cabling. He tells me he is going to talk to Sydney hi fi about it, I just want it sorted and he tells me what needs to be included in the tender. . Upsize, I've decided on setting up a rack. Once I got my head around the components and talked with work colleagues who used to install Hills Hubs in past lives, it doesn't seem too difficult. The Hills Hub solution is quite neat, but perhaps limited in expansion. As I've just received the tender, with slight "price shock" I'm considering putting the minimal data points through Kurmond and getting my electrician to run the rest with CAT6 cabling. I'll have the patch panel in the storage room fixed to a decent size 19" rack. There I will have the NBN connection, alarm and any other components such as CCTV, NAS, router and switch. I'm also going to leave speaker wiring till after handover. Perhaps a few in-ceiling speakers powered directly from the amp in the home theatre. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74700 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
