Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 24, 2013 9:53 am We have a house that we holiday let and it had a combined bathroom/toilet. As a result of some water issues we have had to undertake some major repairs and, as most of one of the bathroom walls had to be replaced, we decided to reduce the bathroom size and relocate the toilet into its own room (with wall-hung mini vanity) at the same time. It has reduced the bathroom size but I think the positives outweigh the negatives. Bathroom size is 2.5m x 1.920m (sliding cavity door) Toilet size is 1.570 x 1.050m (sliding cavity door) We were planning on tiling to the ceiling and have selected tiles and a vertical frieze. The builder has now advised that he thinks the rooms will look a lot smaller if we tile to the ceiling and has suggested only tiling to 1.5 metres high in all areas except the shower. I would much prefer to tile to the ceiling but the builder has made me unsure. Hoping for some advice on the following: Will the rooms look bigger if we only tile to 1.5 metres or bigger if we tile to the ceiling? Do you have a frieze if the wall is only tiled to 1.5 metres? Should we have a frieze in the shower if the room is small and part of the room is tiled to 1.5m but the shower is fully tiled (we were originally having a vertical freeze on the wall between the shower and the vanity and not in the shower)? Do you have a frieze in the toilet? Any assistance appreciated. Re: Tile to Ceiling or 1.5 Metres 2May 24, 2013 1:53 pm We did floor to ceiling. Thought a bit about it - but so glad we did. Looks awesome. And - no painting ever. Re: Tile to Ceiling or 1.5 Metres 4May 24, 2013 2:18 pm Brendo We have floor to ceiling tiling in the powder room as well as the bathrooms. I disagree with your builder I think it makes the rooms look bigger. I would leave out the frieze. Agree. We have no cornice, instead we square edge finished which takes full advantage of the ceiling height. Re: Tile to Ceiling or 1.5 Metres 6May 30, 2013 1:50 pm Agree with the opinions above. Floor to ceiling tiling won't enclose a room, as long as the tile is kept simple and streamlined. As you've said the home is a Holiday let, its a great idea as far as maintenence and cleanliness is concerned also. We have it now, (didn't in a previous home) and it will be a must have for our new build. Just so much easier to clean, no condensation on painted walls or grubby marks. Quick wipe over and it's shiny and new! I would 100% go to the ceiling, you wont regret it.
