I'm not the biggest fan of mopping all that floor every time someone needs to use a bathroom lol Sorry should change that as I would love to hear from anyone building BTW I really like your colour choices Hope your build goes well Builder - Aveling Homes Type - Luxury collection 4x3 Design - Chicago My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64958&p=1024362#p1024362 Re: My Aveling Build 4May 22, 2013 6:19 pm Loving your plans! My DH would love all the limestone walls. We have a really big one at the back. He always comments on the ones in secret harbour though haha Re: My Aveling Build 6May 22, 2013 6:42 pm Love your plan, another huge house! I love the big kitchen, alfresco and WIR. Look forward to following your progress. Re: My Aveling Build 7May 22, 2013 7:11 pm That's one big entry!! I'm building with Aveling, have been through Pre start and now waiting final contracts, pending site survey. Would be interested to hear who your sales rep and pre start lady is. Personally I've had a really good experience to date. My sales rep was outstanding, and Pre start girl was exceptionally quick and friendly. Quite a contrast to others who are building with them. Good luck with your journey! That's is one well thought out design. Well done !!! I'm also an Avelinger. There are so many of us on here I'm starting to think we need a thread of our own where we can all add our details for easy reference - for all the newbies PS: I'M KIND OF FURIOUS THAT YOU HAVE CAVITY SLIDERS AS I BEGGED FOR THESE FOR MY PANTRY AND THEY FLAT OUT REFUSED. So jealous you've got them Re: My Aveling Build 9May 22, 2013 7:48 pm Serialbuilder Love your plan, fit for a king and queen. That's is one well thought out design. Well done !!! Maybe it's something fairly new they've introduced and they've just caved in under the pressure of everyone asking? I don't know. But when even your SS says to you, WHY DIDNT YOU PUT A CAVITY SLIDER HERE, IT WOULD HAVE LOOKED MUCH BETTER... you just want to scream don't you?! Re: My Aveling Build 11May 22, 2013 8:04 pm Love the changes you have made! We are also building with Aveling but a little behind you. We have yet to get our working drawings and contracts. Hello all, it's great to see alot of people on here willing to share their experience. I was worried about building for a while but just could not find anything like this design and it is such a relief to get it out of my head and onto paper. Thank you all very much for your kind comments on the design, it's always a bit worrying trying to get a design on paper. I was second guessing myself the whole time as I couldn't quite imagine the end result as there is no display home to see. LeanneR Just a perk with the developer, they are 1.8m high so we are lucky, as I am also a fan of them. janicec The size of the house is a bit bigger than I anticipated due to several features. The WIR for example is much bigger than I had originally planned (my missus is very happy with it though). I just can't really get it smaller and keep it looking correct, as most of you know if you change one room suddenly every other room needs to be changed to make it work. jaceb I was (still am a little) worried about the size of the entry. At first they told me that I couldn't get a coffered ceiling in it. That would pretty much destroy my entry, after some discussion with them and a few changes, it made it into the plan, I just have to use lighting to the correct effect. Serialbuilder I can't believe they wouldn't let you build cavity sliders in your house, I love them but the price is not sitting well with me, depending on size and position they can add $1500-$2000 to the price, hopefully that will make you feel a little better about not having them. day_dreaming I feel like it has taken a long time to get to this point but I also think that due to the changes and my excitement time has stood still getting just this far. lol Nicci Storage was a big issue in the initial design which caused me to completely change the layout around the activity area and add a big storage area. This will be my store/linen and where the router goes. I have found an AP which will be released soon that looks like a smoke detector, so they will be wired back to the store using PoE. Now I have come to the hard part, a lighting design. I will throw it up in the next post and would love any input from anyone as I have never done this before. What are you thinking of doing with the walls? I think it would look great with some good paintings/ pictures, family portraits hung. Especially if you can get the lighting right and make the wall a feature working with the ceiling. I think our back wall is 2.2m i cant remember if that's from ground height or starting from top of planterbox along the back Re: My Aveling Build 18May 23, 2013 4:05 pm My taste is not acceptable when it comes to my missus standards lol She will be doing all of the design when it comes to paintings and photo's, I think she will only get photo's (not paintings) and make some fancy entry. I have been told to stick with structural changes and she will pick what is allowed on them. You have such a large hallway, it would be great if you could do some sort of feature lighting / picture / photo wall to give it some interest. You could break it up over 2 separate areas and have wall lights above for highlighting and that extra bit of ambience?! I'm visualising one wall of older generation and the other with the little ones . You also have heaps of room to do a recess box or even all the way to the floor without making your hallway narrower, but rather by going into the activity room. You might also hate all those ideas One thing someone told me once is to make sure you have the lighting in the garage (the one over the cars) turned the other way and close to the back wall. That way you have great lighting for checking oil etc, whereas the other way you'll have a lot of shadow. Are you getting your lights done by Aveling or yourselves? If you're going to get it done yourselves, I'd be interested to see how you do your electrical plan, it's doing my head in.
