Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 19, 2013 2:21 am Hi, we are ready to sign the contract with builder. However, they charge a lot for upgrade or cable wiring. We are thinking of try to keep the standard, then DIY after handover. 1. Cat 6 through out, but data to Family, Home Theater, Rumpus, Kitchen (island bench as mission control, Data/TV), master bedroom, study, Leisure, outdoor, garage. Rest of bedroom will use WIFI. 2. Star Serve located under stair case for audio, video distribution; but I am concern with comments that the system would not work on HD, may consider to use matrix switch. The supplier said it would work with HD, don't know can trust them. 3. TV to all living area, outdoor, garage, master. 4. I only use one data point for each location, I found many have more than two in each area, whycan we use hub to help with extra distribution if any? 5. Pre wire the home theater is very expensive, HDMI cable cost few hundred bucks, how difficult is after hand over? 6. What about intercom, CCTV? is it worth while doing later? can they link to star serve? 7. I had asked for plenty of powpoints to avoid late change. 8. We wil do lighting after, ground floor cover with downlights and junction box. Any suggestion? Thanks, Re: Technology Setup for our new home 3May 02, 2013 12:29 am I have been (for a long time) recommending the use of up to 4 Cat5e / 6 points to each main area of the home. Technology is changing so rapidly and the use of network cables being so endless that the ability to use these cables for other purposes in the future may become invaluable. Re: Technology Setup for our new home 4May 06, 2013 8:29 am Matt, can you let me know what can be done after hand over since builder charge a lot for cable wiring? What we require: 1. Sharing HD content up to 8 TV point, (may be cable, satellite, Blue Ray, or Networked HD) 2. Distribute music across the network, some ceilling mounting speakers. 3. Get NBN ready, use all Cat 6 cable, 4. View security CCTV over TV channel. 5. Alarm send altert to mobile. 6. Future prove for new technology. 7. support up to 24 Data points. We planed to have 2 Data points for main entertainment areas, study, master room; then one each to bed rooms, Kitchen, outdoor, garage. Would that be sufficient for future use? Thinking about using WIFI for most laptops with kids. Is Hills Home Hub 600 be a good choice since no many choice from builder and I can't not have my cabler doing the wiring during construction. Because the difficulty to do it after hand over, we have to pay for high price for builder. our builder provide following packages. We don't know if it is reasonable for the work required. 1. (1No) Active Splitter Box (3 inputs, 6 outputs). (1No) Wired Services Cabinet (S2203 600 series). Any suggestions? Thanks, Gary Re: Technology Setup for our new home 5May 21, 2013 12:16 am Personally I would not use the Hills Home Hub; you pay a lot for something that's pretty light weight, especially if you want 24 data points. I'd just get a data cabinet (probably 6U, only need 400mm deep), and patch panel. Depending on how you intend to use it, the study might need more (I have 8 distributed around, as the phone runs through that; also desktops, notebooks and printers consume one each). I also run two NASs for distributing data, and that is next to the data cabinet, as it was easier running the cables (each LAG, using LACP, uses 2 Gigabit ports) directly into the manages switch that way, as well as being close to the UPS. I've found for the bedrooms, we are mainly using WiFi, as that provides portability; also means we needed only one extra port at a distant end of the house (my study is one end of a longish house) for the AP, as the other one is again plugged directly into the switch. As both APs are simultaneous dual band, 3x3, there is currently sufficient bandwidth. Re: Technology Setup for our new home 6May 21, 2013 12:19 pm HHH is old technology and not capable of handling HD content. Will the builder allow you to use an external contractor to do something custom (better and probably cheaper)? My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Technology Setup for our new home 7Jun 05, 2013 9:00 pm The previous posters are right, Hills Home Hubs are yesterdays technology. 2 Cat6 cables to main living areas. 1 Cat6/5e to every TV point for Smart TV integration or HDMI distribution and use Wifi for Smart TV. 1 RG6 to every TV for Free To Air TV 1 RG6 for Cable or 2 RG6 for Satellite Foxtel/Austar unless it will be distributed via HDMI system Surround sound pre-wire if it is a 2 story house Alarm cabling for sensors, keypad, door latches and siren 2 Cat6 cables to office 1 Cat6 to Access Point location if not 2, depending on size, shape and material of house. Bring all these cables back to a location either under stairs or in garage. Hills hub 1000 series are a great size HUB to install alarm, telephone, TV, Data switch.
